Hey all, I did seach, but I needed some info.  I am sorta looking at this GS500, it's a '91, and the party selling it explained that it "idles a little fast".  When I asked how fast, they said it idles at about 4K rpm's.  My question is this, is this one of those problems that could have anywhere from a simple easy solution to a long drawn out cluster****?

Has anyone ever experienced something simliar?

nonetheless, the problem sounds like a simple fix.

Check for intake leaks. I let the engine run, get a spray bottle and spray the carbs, boots, and all around that area and listen to hear a rev drop. If you got one you got an intake leak. If not, I find that on old CV bikes, if you have the bike idle on too high, it jumps up exponentially.

As in I had the bike just started and turned the idle screw to 1,200, then when it warmed up it idled at 3,400. I turned it down to 1,000 then left it like that, and it started fine with choke and idled fine when completely warmed up.

If its not idle adjustment, it definitely sounds like a lean condition..

Also..... check the carbs!! to make sure the choke isnt stuck on!!!

With choke on full...these bikes idle around 4k....
