hmmm that is really odd

what you are looking for is a M4X10X13mm or 12mm depending on application. Seems odd that you couldn't find them, try an auto parts store.

I don't think a standard would work unless you are also using a nut to hold in place.

As I understand fasteners:

The number following the letter "M" is the diameter in mm.
The second number is the thread pitch in mm. (the distance between adjacent threads)

It looks like the number 10 is in error, maybe should be 1.0.? :dunno:

If so, a #10-32 would not match since its pitch is .79 mm  (1/32 in.). and its diameter is 4.8 mm (.19 in.).

Ha Ha ... Welcome to my world ... Metric ... we get no respect ... no decent hardware ... no nothing ... hence I had to use Machine thread for carb bolts and we all remember what ensued and then of course one fine day I couldn't find those either and the dumb looks on the faces of the "experts" at HD and Lowes and their theories about me using a #10 wood screw instead were amazing ... So I gave up and ordered a box of 100 16's and 12's in 5mm X .8 ... just in time for some very screwed up carbs to show up ...
Cool.

Actually, if M4 is correct then the standard pitch for that diameter is .7 mm.  The closest standard length to 1/2" is 12mm. The next shortest is 10 mm. and the next longest is 16 mm.

Maybe M4x.7 12 mm long is what your looking for? :dunno:

OK we're talking about differnt things ...and this is what the differences are ...
1. 89-00 bike uses 2 5mm bolts per carb in place of the 4 4mm ones you have.
2. Your bolt is 4mm dia and .7mm pitch ... that what the 1.0 and .7 etc were referring to.
3. a #10 bolt is about 4.87mm dia, and 32 is the threads per inch whihc is almost the same as .8 mm pitch that the 89-00 bolts were ... so a 10-32 1/2 inch bolt is a mish mosh of SAE specs that is nearly the same as the 5 X .8 we needed ... Of course HD metric was total shaZam!, and I have bought bolts that were bent into a banana just cos that's all they had ...  :x  :x  :x  ... The SAE stuff is available in allen head stainless ... and very good tolerances made it a cool deal ... but when they ran out of that too ... I just snapped ... and ordered a couple boxes of 100's ...
You need 4 X .7mm in 12mm length ... OK take your crabs to the store and try say 8-36 machine thread ... I dunnot if it fits ... but check and see ...
Cool.

If you can find the right size bolt but it's too long a dremel cutting wheel works great for cutting it down. I had to do that to install cabinet pulls in my kitchen remodel.
