I need help.  My turn signals don't work (original equipment).  The brake and head lights do work.  Does anyone have any suggestions.  I have already checked the fuse.  Also, is a flasher and relay the same thing.  Thanks.

What year is your GS?
Do both turn signal lamps come on, but not flash, or does one lamp come on and not flash?

Yes, the relay and flasher are the same gadget. The turn signal relay has an "L" shaped connector on it.

The flasher (relay) is dependent on both lamps being good. If both lamps on one side come on and not flash, the relay (flasher) may have a bad connection in it. I have a couple open on my bench and plan to take some photos showing a mod to make it more reliable. A couple of simple solder joints will make it better.

If the lamps come on, the handlebar switch is probably OK.

If the front one on one side comes on, but doesn't flash, and the rear one of the same side doesn't come on, could it be that the bulb is burned out?

I have a similar problem.  Sometimes they come on, sometimes they don't.  Sometimes they come on a minute after I flip the switch.

I should have explained the problem a bit more.  Its a 2004 GS 500.  NONE of the turn signals work.  They do not come on at all.  The 20A fuse is fine and the brake lights and head lights work.

2 words ... Relay and warranty ... dealer should fix it, but its the relay.

Possibly the switch at the handle bar is dirty or rusty.  Mine had a gremlin before I cleaned it--hard to operate (sticking), sometimes it would not come on, or turn off, or it turns on spontaneously without me operating it.

Open the switch housing up and clean it.  Becareful not to break anything in there as some of the components are really fragile, otherwise you'll have to mend them (ahem... ).  WD40 or something similar would be a nice cleaner for the gunk that may have built up.  Lubricating the metal contacts after clean up with dielectric grease will help to suppress future oxidation.

Either that or a bad connection somewhere - and they generally will not flash or flash very slowly if a bulb is burned out.
