bike setup:
============
stock pipe
k&n lunchbox
stage 3 jet kit
valves adjusted 500 miles ago

the problem:
============
the bike hits a rev limit wall when at speed, and in some cases will puff white smoke. this has me puzzled since a ride last month the bike was screaming and didnt hit such a limit. once i make it to a point it will begin to dog down... in some cases down shifting WON'T help. the first thought was spark plugs, but after replacing them, the same problem still exist.

thoughts?
*hope there is more to it then "get a pipe"

I'm no guru, but shouldn't you be at a stage 1 kit with just the lunchbox?

:dunno:  :dunno:

Or get a pipe.

Yea pipe ... The stock pipe really kills high revs ... K&N only works at high revs ... nix one of the 2 ... I'd toss the can and fit slip ons ... but one of the 2 has to go ... Air box and paper filter and stock pipe ... or Lunch box and slip on ... I have posted many times earlier about no one being able to get a stock pipe to work with a Lunch box ...
Cool.

Hey Srinath,

How about K&N drop in, any help at high RPM or more a waste of money,

Do you still have to rejet, or does a rejet and k&n drop in filter help at all, or do you still need to do a aftermarket exhaust?

Pipe.

Mine did the same thing when I put my Supertrapp on.  I had the end cap with only about 5 plates on it.  I took off around the block and it was cool at low rpms but would pop and not go any faster when the revs climbed.  This was with K&N lunchbox, 150 mains (stage 3 jetting), and the stock header with Supertrapp slip on (choked off with only 5 plates).  I removed the end cap and it was all better.  Screams now.

Either open up the exhaust or jet the bike back down and (probably have to remove the K&N too).  Maybe go back to the stock airbox with a drop in K&N.  You've opened up the intake without opening up the exhaust.  You've gotta match them at one end or the other.

BTW - I got my stock pipe to work with the K&N lunchbox...

But it had 6 holes drilled in it :)

The paper filter can be washed and reused 3-4 times easy ... K&N is usually pretty much a waste ... except that its reusability is infinite and it does show a better performance if you jet ... Airbox K&N is a bit better than paper ... Lunch box K&N ... The real deal ... they are equally dirty ... so I'd skip the expensive intermediate step ... The last year or so I have completely reversed my idea about paper ... my choice used to be UNI and K&N pod, now its Paper and K&N pod ... in that order ... Cleaner filter helps ... a lot ...
Cool.
