I bought a set of engine guards on E-bay a few days ago and jut got them today here is the link for the action

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4534005424&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT

On the back of the package it says its for a GS500E models 96-2000, I have a 2002, does any on know if it will still fit on the 2002 model. The package is sealed and I don't want to open it, plus since it is still kind of snowing in Chicago I won't be able to try and put them onto the bike for more than a month. The bike is in the storage and hard to get to.

Thanks for any help

I dont know of any reason why they wouldnt, Im pretty sure the engines are interchangable between those years so you should be good.  Im not 100 percent sure though.

I recently put some engine guards on my bike (01 GS)....the guards I picked up off ebay were for a very early model (early 90's).....the only problem I had was that the bolts were not quite long enough....I used one bolt from the package and one bolt from the bike.....

....I needed two 11 cm bolts not one 11 cm and one 10 cm bolt...other then that they fit on perfectly!!!
PETE: It's four in the funking morning!

SHAUN: It's Saturday!

PETE: No, it's not. It's funking Sunday. And I've got to go to funking work in four funking hours 'cos every other funker in my funking department is funking ill! Now can you see why I'm SO FUNKING ANGRY?

ED: Funk, yeah!

All right we have a saying in Chicago: "if you don't like the weather wait half an hour and it will change". So yesterday the temp was in the 50s and I decided to take my bike out of the storage. Before I did I installed those engine guards and they fit perfect.

The only thing is that the bolts that come with them are not long enought so I used one stock and bought another one.

Yup ... same problem when we tried it on davipu's bike ... we used hand tapped 3/8th stainless rods ...

I put the factory guards on my 97 and then transferred them to my 02, no problem.  One of the new bolts is too short, but it works just fine on either bike with the longest new bolt and the longest old bolt.  No need to get any new bolts or rods.

One of davipu's bolts was bent into a banana ...  :o

yeah I have them on mine, and I ordered them when i bought the bike in 2000, and even then one of the bolts was too short.. but I just used one of the other engine bolts and it has all been good. Enen saved my case once when i slipped on some gravel, only damage to the bike was some scratches on the case guards. I would have to say they work.
