GS now dangerously fast

With the 15 tooth sprocket, slip-on, and rejet, the accelleration of the bike frightens me.  Not in that make you poo your pants kind of way. Just that I'll get on the on-reamp and go full revs up to the last gear, look down once I'm on the freeway and think, "crap, did I just go from 0-90 while merging?"  I understand that the GS is supposed to be pretty slow, but I don't think I should be allowed anything faster- the bike is fast enough as is... you can definitely push it into the realm of dangerously fast, I think.

i got an 2004 F with a wileyco exhaust, k&n filter and tomorrow, i'm getting a dynojet kit installed. . .i'm getting pretty scared myself when I go pick it up after it's installed as to how drasticallly worse/better the bike's acceleration going to be

is it really that much of a change?

down and not out for good. . .

Gee thanks a lot for posting that, now I need to go get a dynojet, a 15T sprocket, and a slip on. haha. Good job, sounds like a lot of fun!!! w00t!

Definitely summons the beast within...well, maybe not a beast...but definitely a demon.   :)

I think my flyscreen and Srinath S-M bars also help.  You deal with less wind resistance between that 60 and 90 range.   The bike just accellerates up to about 90 with a lot less effort - before you even realize it...  By the way, I only did the stage one self-jet.  I'm thinking that if I dropped in an aftermarket filter I could go to stage two, but I'll wait until I get used to the present boost.

I have srinath's bars and a stage 3 jet...wileyco pipe and K&N pods...I think it accelerates as fast without the fly screen but with one you just don't notice the extra wind.  I just put a fly screen on my bike a few weeks ago and will never go back to fully naked....just too much work.

Yea it really wakes the bike up, Ive got a stage 3 jet, V&H exhaust, Bob B. Ig. Advance, K&N pod, and a 43t rear sprocket and it goes pretty good.  Just have to get a few slight carb issues worked out and it should run even better.

conflicttheorist

oh yeah, the advancer made it nice and responsive too.

Wait till' you run against a modern inline 4.  You won't be scared by your bike anymore.  The last GSXR750 I raced passed me at 147 and I was going 99...  and I got the head start.....

Mine has K&N, Supertrapp, some porting, rejet, 15 tooth, and some other minor tweaks to the motor.

try going 110mph on the gs with the wind pounding at you like crazy on the freeway and then being passed by a litre bike going 150-160mph..... ON ONE WHEEL!

Its happened to me more than once, last year I had been riding with experienced riders on bigger bikes and they did sometimes like to show off when the freeway was straight and clear. They'd be going about 70-80mph and pull the throttle to lift the front wheel and carry it all the way up between 125-160mph depending on how crazy said rider is. Those speed are as indicated on their speedo ofcourse so it may be realistic speeds of 115-145mph.

I'm not saying the GS is faster than any of those bikes.  Those bikes go retardedly fast (see Ludicrous Speed).  Just because Cheetahs go like 50 mph doesn't mean I'm any less impressed by carl lewis.  I'm gonna say it loud and clear for you fellas... THE GS500 IS A FAST MOTORCYCLE.  the fact that other things go faster doesn't make it less fast.  Stop comparing chicken sizes.  7 inches is a big one even though porn stars have enormous ones, okay.

I just curse and remind myself that 7 inches is big too

My brother used to say that it does no good to go that fast anyways because you've got to give people time to see you go by and appreciate how cool you are.

I didn't notice any difference after installing the ignition advancer.   :dunno:

I did!  More grunt low down, easier take-offs, better pulling out of corners.
If you were actually talking about a noticeable change in top end speed, I agree, I didn't notice any difference, although the gurus say that theoretically there is one.
