I bought my bike from a guy in Missouri last Saturday, and I still haven't ridden it. I've already charged the battery and replaced the VERY fouled spark plugs, but now it seems I need to rebuild the carbs as well. They're dripping into the cylinders and the engine keeps flooding.......it sucks.

I ordered 2 carb kits online and my friend's dad (who has worked on bikes all his life and works on planes for a living) is supposed to work on it pretty soon....I'm just nervous that he's gonna mess something up. I have a manual for the bike that details the steps in rebuilding the carbs, so hopefully that makes it easier.

Anyway.....I guess the point of my post is: How hard is it to disassemble and rebuild the carbs?

best tear down and reinstall  instructions on the planet. There is much more to rebuiulding, though, you could always get a manual from the link on this site for more info. Good luck!

I just fixed one leaky ass set of carbs ... That rebuild kit is waaaaaay over priced ... If you need the float bowl gasket ... buy it ... else O rings off NAPA's assorted bin are cheaper ... I buy those all the time ... and Mine was doing the exact same thing ... bad float seat O ring in right carb ... 1 O ring and it was great ...

I know the feeling.Bought  a 90 from a guy in Indiana. Knew it needed work. Ended up having to pull the top end as there was little or no compression in the left cylinder. Found the cylinder was rusted and the rings stuck. Honed the cylinder and have rings on order. That's not counting the parts that I needed from the damage from being laid down on both sides. I've got over 500 in parts right now, and i'm not done yet.

I bought my '89 from a guy in Maryland and I just finished putting new rods, pistons, and rings in it.

BTW, where in Missouri did you buy this GS?
