Look at how many tire questions we have had within the last week.  This includes me  :P

Well i just had a set of Michelin's put on my bike for the first time.  I loved the Pirelli's but they seem to attract nails.  I'll let ya know what i think... ;)

I agree 100%

cheesy

okay it needs to include:

stock tire sizes: (110/70-17 front 130/70-17 rear)
preferred stock tire size brand: bridgestone bt45's (what speed rating?)

stock size +1: I dunno front, 140/80-17 avon av46's fit without rubbing

anything larger than that require modification of rear brake brace. Any size large *really* you should use a bandit rear wheel

also.. really it should be 'editable'

I know posts in the FAQ are made only by those 'elite' moderators...

how about a sticky?  A 'general' tire post sticky that could be used to acquire a mass of info that is eventually made into an FAQ post?

there's just way way too many tire posts. they honestly aren't even searchable there are so many

Dom

A general sticky tire post would become confusing and overwhelming for someone new who would look at the 40+ pages and just say geez, forget it, I aint reading all that.

What would be really cool is if we had a tires section with sub-categories based on make...for instance there would be a Bridgestone section and people could post their reviews on the Battlax line.  In the Metzler people could give reviews of the M1, ME55, ME33 etc...  It might take a little time to gain momentum but would be awesome if everybody contributed.  There could be a separate categories for all the less popular brands and track specific tires, but I would rather that there be a whole different track section all together with it's own FAQ including tires, suspension, etc.

What do you think.  I guess the only reason I care is because I am on here so much...but I think it would be valuable to everybody from lurkers to lifers.

ok how about a sticky called TIRES

then under that

\tires general info (stock sizes, plus sizes)
\metzlet (editable by users... comments.. reviews.. etc)
\avon (editable by users... same as above)
\pirelli (" ")

and so on

I like it ... now let's see what the moderators think

We should also include pictures so we can compare size and tread pattern.

I have never ordered tires from Dennis Kirk (too expensive!) but their printed catalog has been very helpful because of the pictures and descriptions.  If you don't mind giving up your mailing info, email address and phone number (and I realize that some of you DO) ... then go to this page and order a free Metric Bikes catalog of your own.

Metzeler is making that one easy for us, the new Lasertec tires will replace the ME1, ME33, ME55, ME99, ME330, and ME550 tires.  They will have the same tread patterns as the excellent but ageing ME33 and ME55 bias tires, but will be of modern construction and tread compounds.

I had a ME33 front on the 97 GS and it was the only tire of many that wore evenly all the way down.  Most of my front tires tend to cup and bevel badly.  Should be great tires for those wanting bias ply tires for the GS.
