My buddy's brand spanking new Buell XB12S got pinched last night. He had it chained to a wall and locked, but not covered. I don't think that would have mattered, i think several  thieves probably were able to lift it. The chain and bolt were removed from the concrete without a big mess. He bought the bike outright -OUCH!!  My only consolatory advice to him was to call his homeowner's policy company.

Just a reminder, thieves are everywhere. they will scope out your bike. Nothing's fool proof, but  good locks and a cover might make the difference if you don't have a garage.

That sucks.  Homeowners likely won't cover any vehicles.  His insurance will, as long as he had theft/loss coverage.  Thankfully, nobody is trying to steal my ratty GS  

That's kinda why I like my "anti-theft crashed" rashed up exhaust pipe.

I had my bike in my driveway 2 nights ago and I heard a few bikes drive past my house about 8 times in 2 hours and I live on a quiet side street with 5 houses on it - no traffic on my street EVER! Made me a little suspicious, so I locked the bike up in the garage. Sucks that you have to worry about it, but you do.

Sorry to tell you but GS's aren't safe either.  Mine is pretty "used" with 34k on the clock and in the past 3 years it has been attempted to be stolen about 4 to 5 times.  All while sitting out in the parking lot of two different apartments.  Anyway I have a disc lock and they would just knock the bike over when they realized they couldn't roll it anywhere.

put an alarm on it that hookes into the house by your bed so when someone touches it it goes off. then you can pull the gun our from your bed and have some fun with his feet. make him dance hahaha. atleast knock the thief out witha  bat

My K650 was stolen from my driveway when I lived in Santa Cruz. It was broad daylight and I was even home. There was a house in back that shared the same drive and I remember thinking "I don't remember that car pulling in".  It just didn't register until the next day when I walked out to an empty driveway.

It was actually found about a month later. Totally trashed, it had been spray painted with some cheap green paint. The seat was ripped to hell. I didn't even recognize it. Fortunetly it was insured, so I just wrote it off. Really heartbreaking. You get attached after 2 cross country trips and 30K miles.

I went to the house where the bike was found by the police. I found out the guy worked at a gas station. Didn't have enough to really say he was the prick who stole it, and it may not have been so smart to confront the guy, but at least I made him squirm.

How exactly was it secured?  Did he use expansion bolts and some sort of anchor?  And how did they remove it from the wall?  Power tools?

I've got a new to me Triumph Speed 4, and I have it locked to a bike rack, but the bike rack can be  removed with 8 bolts   At least I have a cover for it though.

Luckily for me, there are two SV650s nearby that aren't locked up.  There's also a Ducati across the street.

i had a real scare the other night i was at my buddys house, and when i pulled up i didn't see any other bikes on the street. i was sitting in the house and i heard a bike that sounded just like mine fire up i reached down and couldn't find my key. i ran out side and it turned out to be another bike across the street, but it got my heart going i was ready to kill some one.

i dont know who else has used bolt cutters here but i have a set to cut bolts off and locks and it will go through the thickets bolts you can imagen with hardly any noise. hell itll probly break the door nob off a house if I tried. there really isnt anything that will keep it that safe.

sounds like they knew where, and how it was locked up. to make it quick and quiet when a bike is Chained to the wall and not Cut the chain but unbolt it? someone knew. yeah its nothing to snatch a bike up on skateboards to roll it along quietlike, or take 3 guys and toss into a Van or boxtruck, but when its chained down or to a wall, you need abit more info and finesse then a few extra hands.

Hey JeffD ... you said you have a disc lock on your GS.  I'd be curious to hear more details about this gizmo....  I'll be parking my bike outside at work and wouldn't mind a little piece of mind.

i agree i park my bike at work and school all the time and would like to know that its safe.

I have an anti-theft device that works pretty well.  I painted my GS Teal green and put on white wheels.  I heard purple works pretty well, too.

Seriously, though, I have a disc lock and a chain that can't be cut with bolt cutters (at the hardware store they have to use hydraulic cutters, it put a chip in the normal bolt cuttters).  It only came out to about 25 dollars for 6 feet.  But the lock itself can still be cut with a dremmel tool after about 15 minutes, and both can be cut with a blowtorch, so nothing is perfect.  The Teal and White is the best defense I have.  

how bout we all put together an elctric fence box on it, so we zap the thiefs.  When I owned my eclipse spyder, one of the guys in that group rigged it up to run thru his wheels(he had 2 different sets stolen in 6 months time).  He said it really wasn't that hard, jus needed a converster to plug it in to.  I would love to see the look an someones face when they hopped onto my bike an went for a ride, lol

I'll admit... I usually park my bike in front of the camera when I park at work.. And if I leave it in the driveway overnight I'll leave the outside light on and my bedroom window open... It's very close to the driveway...

Miracle of f'n miracles, we just picked it up from the police tow lot this morning. Probbaly some drug dealer wanted a joyride and ran outa gas, but couldn't refuel as the tank was locked. It got recovered in a drug neighborhood. Cosmetically it's in great shape. The ignition got punched out and the rear lock is busted, other miscellaneous stuff. We trucked it to the dealer and it'll get fixed up no problem. HE is SOOOOO lucky i can't believe it.
