I have it now.......looks good for giving it a go this weekend......one question....after watching the video again and looking at the suzuki shop manual that I have, the position that the lobes should be in to check the clearance seems to be different with the video showing 180 degrees away but in line with the valve and the manual showing pointing straight up or another position that looks parallel to the top surface of the head.  Any thoughts?

as long as the lobe it's self isn't applying pressure to the shim you can measure the clearance, although it if is close to whare it almost touches there is a possibilty that you get tight readings with the feeler gauge

I just saw a similar diagram in the Clymer manual yesterday or the day before.  Surprise!

The accompanying text went so far as to say that if you adjusted the clearance in any other position it might result in damage to the engine.  I don't know that I would go that far, but pointing the lobe straight up has got to be easier than eyeballing the 180-degree position that I suggest in the video.

HELP!!...the valve cover is stuck on like glue....tried giving it a few taps to loosen, but it isn't moving.  I really don't want to start prying with tool...going to take an hour or so break, so quick replies are requested or else I will do the other things I had planned...change the choke cable, clean the air filter and put everything back together.

I used a socket wrench.  I removed the bolts from the valve cover, and found a socket that fit the hole perfectly.  I attached a socket wrench to the socket and lifted up, prying the cover off.  Give it a shot, maybe it'll work for you.

Just don't loose the socket while you're prying it up. It's a very long way to the bottom of the cam-chain well.

dnorwoo

RayLarabee - send me your address please.
And a small comment about the feeler guages ...
Do not take them out by unscrewing the end collar  ... I saw that they were in the wrong order ... The guages go thinnest to thickest, except the last one ... aka the thickest one is in front of the thinnest to protect it from being torn up by the U shaped housing ... So Do not open and the order is that and its suposed to be that way.
Cool.

Hi, folks !!

I also need a valve adjustment.

I only read the 1st page of the thread, and if I understand corectly, one is to receive it in the mail and include the used shims in the package and send it off to the next person ?
But whom do we pay ?

How long is the waiting list ?
 :dunno:

Help, please !

JCH

You don't pay.  You just pay the shipping when you send it to the next person

So east coast Kit is ...
Me, then raylarrabee (respond by tommorow or get bumped), weaselnoz, and dnorwoo ... sound right ...
And we can decide to bump 1 spot till response ... or to bottom or out of the list ... we should decide - My choice will be ... 1 spot. but we dont want that practice getting out of hand. So its 1 spot for now, further study is recomemded. Serial offenders need not apply ???
Cool.
Srinath.
