Well the TL1000 has officially ruined me

Went for a 50 mile ride on the GS this morning and boy was it an experience.  Been riding the TL1000 for about a month now and I'm hooked.  GS was a fun little bike and I thought I would keep it to tool around on every once and awhile.  It just feels like a toy now in comparison.  Still love the bike and the forum, but I think it is officially time to say goodbye to the GS.  My brother is wanting a first bike and I am trying to talk him into buying it from me.  If he doesn't want it I will post it up here before it goes to E-bay.

What do you think would be a good price for a 98 with 18k and some "minor" scraps on the left side frame and tank.  Still runs like a champ new tires less than 1000 miles.  Valve adjustment less than 500 miles ago they also cleaned my chain and said it looked practically brand new.

I am tracking GS sales on Ebay, but have no data on 98's. I'd say $800 to $1500 depending on losts of things and how bad the buyer wants it and how many more are available.

I saw three asst. years that did not sell because the reserve was not met. Davipu will offer you two cases of beer and will come pick it up.

If you take him up on that, be sure to specify that the beer must be unopened!

I was watching ebay recently and a 98 sold for $1875 w/ corbin seat,  slip on  exhaust, and low miles (3750)  Their reserve was $1700 (more than I am allowed to spend).  It was located in Kansas City for reference.  Starwalt, I think that '90 in Ohio has the reserve set way too high.  That guy is kidding himself if he thinks he can get more than $1500 for that age of bike, regardless of miles and upkeep IMHO.

How much do you guys think an 02 with 5k and a reconstructed title would be good for? Its in awsome shape with k&n, wileyco, and rejetted.

salvage title REALLY lowers the value of the bike.  I'd say most would pay about $1700 for an 02 with rebuilt salvage title.

the 98, wrecked with fairing/tank/frame scrapes/dents...   $1300 or so would probably be fair.  Maybe a little more if the damage isn't bad... say $1500ish at most

hey, keep the Gs and start riding in the rain, and commuting to work.
It will help your skills even more.

That V-twin torque is addicting how?!?!?!

Jasco

The TL just feels so much more stable than the GS.  Wider tires and a descent suspension really make a difference.  The TL has way more power than I will ever need, but it is neice to know you have it. :)   Just got to be carefull to keep the front wheel down.  I'm glad I have the TL now and I got a hell of a deal on it.  The riding position isn't too horrible for clip ons.

Matt

P.S.  The V-twin does sound sweet when compared to all the inline 4's out there.  Even  the R1 and FZ1 guys I ride with make comments about how good my bike sounds even with the stock exhaust.

It's funny.  I was riding the GS all week.  Went riding one day with two other guys and really pushed it to keep up with a DL650 and a DL1000.
I took my DL650 for a ride yesterday and kept comparing the two.  The GS would have been a much more fun bike on  this ride.  Lots of twists and turns mixed with a little high speed.
The GS has a silky smooth transmission and loves to be reved.  All it's movements are smooth.  The DL650, being a v-twin is much different.
Just gotta keep the GS between 7,000 and 9,000 when you are pushing and it does fine.
The guy that had the 650 rode my GS for about 30 minutes and he loved it.  He said it feels like a toy, but this is what makes it so fun to ride.
It's the difference between a Stingray and a Mazda Miata.
It depends what you like.
Good luck.

When I had both my modded GS and my new TLS, the GS never left the garage.  Riding the TL ruined anything I liked about the GS.  The brakes, suspension, engine, size, stability, etc, made the GS feel like a toy in a bad way.  The torque and stopping power made the TL so much more fun on the street.  I also got an awesome deal on mine (left over '01 bought in '04 well below MSRP).

Turn the GS in to a track bike.

Actually, the stock TL exhuast sounds crappy compared to a Yosh or M4.
I kind of like the M4 over the Yosh. Had the Yosh now M4.

TL sound clips ---->  //www.jiffypark.com/tl/tl.htm
Common sense in not very common.

I seriously thought about turning it into a track bike.  Putnam park about 2 hours or so from my place does track days.  I just don't have the funds ot support that habit right now.  Probably in about 2 years when I get some stuff payed off I will look for a track bike.  I just can't justify holding onto the GS for 2 yrs when I know i'm not gonna use it much on the street.

yeah I'm over on the planet and heard all of the sound clips.  I also like the M4 better.  When I sell the GS I will have some extra cash to start moding the TL.

I know what you mean.  I went out riding with a tiller yesterday (my son), that thing is sooooooo awesome.  I want one too.  I am going with a VFR though, I don't think I can handle the tiller.
