bar end mirror question

I just got a 1996 GS 500, my first bike, and bought a CRG hindsight mirror which doesn't fit the bar end which is too large (BTW, it is not the stock bar end, it is 1" in diameter and needs to be 7/8" to fit).  The billet bar end adapter kit doesn't solve the problem.  What to do?

you can go the adapter and without the barend. the only barend that supports the crg mirror is cycle cat barends.

I have the lane splitting mirror.  If you have the adapter then no barend necessary.  Another option is to fit the mirror between the grip and the bar-end; that's what I did.

thanks so much for your answers.

i bought the adapter...but the problem is that the handlebar has a piece inside it that is the screw in for the bar end that was on the bike - thus, the handlbar is solid on the inside - the adapter has to slide INSIDE the handlebar.

any ideas about getting that piece out?

thanks,

That can be tricky--if you already removed the screw going through the nut on the other side of that piece, it's going to take some needlenose pliers gymnastics to get it out.  Plus it can just get stuck in there over time.  Don't know any special tricks, just pliers and lots of patience is what I did.  You may also want to try prying around its outer edge with a small screwdriver--just try to keep the damage to that part to a minimum.

I moved my grips in a smidge and just mounted my CRG's on the ends--you may want to consider this option if you absolutely, completely cannot get those things out.  Good luck.

One more thing--don't throw out those stock bar-ends.  They're quite handy to have (can be used on lots of bikes), and they're expensive, too.

Thanks for the advice.  I moved my grip over so mounting the mirror was no problem once I did so.  Sweet!

you can also get some other year's handle bar that has a hallow inside.
