Hola everybody, i just wanted to see if anyone had some time to spare to provide some input with my college project.  i'll try to keep it as simple as possible, also feel free to gimme shaZam! about too.  basically what i'm researching is land reuse and recycling, particularly old military bases, old airports, and other places that aren't really great places to live in their present form.

my idea is to take such properties and convert them into homes, but with a twist.  the twist is that  the runways and open space will be converted to a race track (one big straightaway, lots of twisties before and after).  of course being a biker, i'll keep it mainly for bikes, but would allow cars when bikes weren't on.  this is similar to "fly-in" communities where people taxi their planes to their garages.  what i'd like to know from ya'll is if their was such a place in a medium to major city where you could live and play within a stone's throw of each other, would you live there?  thanks!!!!!!

cheesy

That would be really loud.  upkeep would be insane, and insurance would be even worse.

better development idea would be to place bike and car dealers on the property, and let them use the track for test drives/rides.  Put in an mx track, a road course, etc.

Then open it up to the public on certain days - bunch of folks riding hard, buying parts and whatnot from dealers/tuners on-site.  Sounds more fun than living there  :thumb:

A "specialized community", such as the one you propose for motorsports, would not be a draw for me. I side with Cheesy on the noise issue. The last thing I would want to hear at 11:30 at night is someone trying out their bike for the community picnic and talent contest the next day.

A motorsports community would be safer, IMHO than an aircraft community. Bikes and cars don't fall out of the sky into my bedroom.

If was built like a vacation resort, that would have an appeal.
Common sense in not very common.

Not my idea... One of the starboyz was talking about building a motorcycle mall... A mall with a dragstrip?

As a practical matter, all of the areas that weren't owned by individuals (anything other than the individual lots) would have to be owned by a home owners association.  Such common areas have to have insurance.  In this case, a lot of insurance.  I'm guessing home owners dues would be prohibative.

But  as a resort, like Dgyver said, that is a good idea.

thanks for the replies everybody!  i was just gonna clarify a few details of what i was thinking so hopefully it'll make more sense.  i was thinking that there wouldn't be tons of homes, and i'd like to stress that the residential portion would have considerable separation maybe like a mile or so, so the driveways would feed into a small road that feeds into the track area.

i think the resort idea is even better, because since it's in a noisy area one could handle it for a weekend or a few days much more than years.  hey if they have pansy golf resorts, why not a motorsports resort??  8)

Ahhhhh.....nothing like waking up to the smell of VP into morning.

The resort idea is much better. Taking a vacation to ride is not uncommon or unusual. Having a known place to stay with support facilities would be a draw. Ride or trailer your bike there.

Hmmm... "Disney GP"?  "GP Land"? "Six Flags over GP"?

Ok, back to studying.

Why not something more useful like a goverment funded food production plant for making no parishable items to send overseas to help rebuild US international relations? A motorsport vacation centre would be fun but I think your teacher might be more impressed with a non whismiscal suggestion. Just my opinion. Have fun with it either way.
