Not sure if this is the place but here it is. My wife died this morning after a long illness.

After I got away from the hospital and the fussing but well meaning folks I walked into the town and bought a litre of famous grouse and a litre of Cognac. Got them home, sat them down on the table and looked at them for a half-hour. Then I put them in a cupboard. No help at all, maybe if I'd opened one it might have helped, maybe made things worse, who knows.

Long talk with transplant co-ordinator, she was on the register, they will with a little luck be able to give sight to two people and use her heart valves to help two children or young people to live, or live a better life.

That did help, just a little. As bikers we often refer flippantly to organ donors but if ever you are in this position please choose life, even for someone you don't know. Life is a sweet thing.

I won't be around for a bit but I will be back.

Wow Cal i'm very sorry.
You were right about the litres. Someone in need will be grateful for what your wife was able to donate. You have my sympathies. Hang in there.

That's horrible!  Maybe a little shot or two will calm your nerves a little bit.  Just don't do 10 or 12.

Right now I know you are in a funk and full of grief.  Please hang in there.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Cal. It always seems unfair when something like this happens but hopefully knowing we all care deeply will in some small way comfort you.

My condolences. Hope you feel better. She is at rest now, and her body is going to a good cause.

I am grieved to hear of your loss Cal. Words seem petty and answers are elusive at these times. Remember the best. Your friends here in the States mourn with you.

Cal,
sorry to hear for your loss

it's funny, that it takes someone else's loss to let another one really settle in:  my grandma just passed away last thursday

and i just shed my first tear for her when I read your post

maybe your wife and my grandma will be riding on the same road to heaven (both on different gs')

drink to remember, not to forget (i like the way dgyver put it)

I'm honoured and humbled that you chose to share with us, Cal.  I hope there is more we can do for you to help you through this.  Please don't hesitate to ask- anything at all.  We'll all try.
On a more sensitive note, you mentioned a long illness.  I know sometimes when the illness has gone on and on, particularly if there has been an inexorable decline, those remaining often feel a sense of relief mixed with their grieving, relief that the loved one is not suffering any more.  Sometimes they feel a bit guilty about this, like it means they wanted the person gone.  It's sometimes hard to remember that all you really wanted was the best for them, and for their suffering to be over.
