Three months i was learning to ride my bike i went to gas up my bike at the local gas station. When i was there this woman was eyeing me by the door.She was wearing high stallitos a really tacky gold dress she was nice looking. When i went to go pay she said "i need a ride can you give me one it will be fun. Its just around the corner." I told her that i didnt have a helmet and her shoes werent protective. I dodged that bullet. Anything like this happen to you guys. I dont have a problem with hookers i just dont want to get the clamp.

The "clap" is ghonorea or however the crap it's spelled.  It is a bacterial infection, and Penicillin kills it quick.  Not that I have any "personal" experience .  NO SERIOUSLY I've never had a VD! :lol:

Gonorrhea, caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae.  It's curable, but that doesn't mean it's harmless; it can cause ectopic pregnancies (one complication is the formation of scar tissue on the uterus).  Syphilis is curable with penicillin, but it has mild symptoms initially, and if not completely cleared, can cause extensive systemic damage years after initial infection.  Oliver Sachs wrote a case study of a woman who developed neurosyphilis about 70 years after the initial infection.

Not to mention that any situation that leads to you getting a "curable" disease can also lead to you getting an incurable one.  Be careful!  And that means being choosy with your partners as well as using a condom.

I've been riding maybe 3 or 4 months and it just happened to me to. If I remember correctly gonnorrhea can lead to PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) in women.  A woman's chance of an ectopic pregnancy goes up by 10% the first time she has the disease, and the rate is close to 50% if she's had three or more times.

so are you an MD or lab rat?  I"m doing my PhD in epidemiology and focusing primarily on the relationship between infectious diseases and host genetics.

I'm sure she's a lab rat.  Nobody with a REAL job has either the desire nor the time to hang around here.  When I was working I was busy busy busy.  No time for this crap.  Now that I'm retired I have LOTS of time to annoy y'all.  And hopefully teach you younguns a thing or two.

So jake, tell me what is the latest between infectious diseases and host genetics.  Are there links between racial groups and infection by viruses?  Is that why blacks have almost half the HIV infections?  Is there a gene that allows the HIV to take hold?  A gene that stops it from entering the cell?  Or do you not follow that.  What is your dissertation on?  When are you up to defend it?

I'd like a primer on what is known.  Any good web links you can share?

I'm a lab rat.  I used to study coreceptor regulation of CD8+ T-cell activation; now I do microglia activation in ischemia/stroke.  Since microglia are brain-resident macrophages, it's very heavily related to immunology.  There's surprisingly little work out there on neuroimmunology, so the lab has a good (and productive, in terms of the overall-good-for-humankind issue) niche.
The former lab wasn't going so well and my PI moved, so I left immunology with my Master's.  My current PIs want to sponsor me to finish my docotorate, though, either in immunology or neurobiology (whichever displays the least red tape) so it's truly awesome that I got this position.
I currently work for one MD/PhD and one PhD, and the former is still doing clinical work, so I get a very interesting perspective.
