Top speed question

Ok so today I went on a ride with my local club. We went from northern subburns of Chicago to Lake Geneva in Wisconsin. Its about 100 miles. Our group had kruisers and sports bikes. On the way back we broke up into small groups and I went with guys who had sports bikes, mostly 600s and 750s.

As we were riding back we took the highway and all the guys on sports bikes decided to go well over 100mph. I tried keeping up but at around 105mph m GS started shaking and wobeling from side to side and I had to take it down to 100! At first I though it could have been because of the wind, but then I tried it again and noticed that 110mph is the red line, and I realized that my GS can't go that fast.

Question whats the fastest you have ever gone on the gs, or does any one know what is the top speed on it? I ended up coming back home alone cause I could not keep up!

scratch

With the speedometer error, we can only conjecture what our actual top speed really is, but something to note is that with a lower profile tire you will higher reading (smaller tires make more revolutions per mile=thus faster). I've done 110 indicated with a 110/80 front tire.

Edit: corrected speed

I was paced at 120mph by another bike. He has had his speedo calabrited (sp?) and is dead on.
I have a 15t front sprocket, and it seems to have helped my top end. 9500rpm's in top gear.

I only had mine up to 98 indicated, but I also weigh 220 lbs.  Stock sprocket and all that jazz.

Well with my 175lb frame on a day with little or no wind I can get it up to 115mph but its probably more like 105-110 mph cause of the speedo error. LOL What made you think you could keep up with 600cc bikes??

i got mine to 118 the fastest.

On my 04 "F" I've had it up to 115 easily and  only slowed down because I felt like the wind was going to tear me off..hehe. I think the bike could have handled up to 130mph easily. I felt like I had "room to go". But I chickened out and smarted up :)

ohh yea, I weigh 225 and have a Givi a750 wind screen...

Some of us should go to the Bonneville salt-flats. I believe the land speed record for a production class 500 is around 120 mph. That is race prepped of course. Don't know what the rules are but if you think you got a fast GS...go for it. It's kinda like the guys who say their Ninja 250 does 115 120 or so and the LSR for one of them was set...last year I think...and it was about 104. My little GS will peg the speedo...130 mph   . Love the little GS, Turkey (the country, not the bird...except on Thanksgiving), and this forum.

On my 04F in a full crouch I got it to about 120-125 indicated. I weigh 122lbs.

Hehe. My CBR can do that in 2nd gear.

I just got back from 1500km ride for the weekend (937miles) My Australian '03 GS500 managed a top speed of 175km/h (a wee bit under 110mph) That speed was confirmed by the other bikes that I was following.

It struggled up a few rises, so drop it back to 5th and off we went. This was all good untill i noticed the tacho pointing towards the 10 grand mark! eep.

What kind of gas mileage do you folks get when you're flat out?   Still over 50 MPG?   :)

edit: That's about 4.725 litres/100 km for metric fuel consumption.

I just ordered a new powerband yesterday, i calculated it all out and my bike should hit around 200-250.  its for a honda superhawk.  Modded alittle to fit the gs, and they can go like 240.

dgyver

Calculated, I have been around 130mph and still accelerating. Can't find that dang 7th gear. Obviously not a stock motor and max revs are 13,5. Full fairings help a lot at higher speeds.
Common sense in not very common.

On my 04 around the 115 mark with my 215 lb butt on it.

On my F, 125 indicated, and could still accelerate. Now with a 14T, only about 115 indicated and at redline.
