From what I am reading..the '04 "F" GS's seem to have a higher top speed..is that because of the fairing or is something else slightly different? The "F" also has an oil cooler over the naked right? Or am I wrong like usual? :)

Fairings do assist in higher speeds. Yes, the F has an oil cooler.
Common sense in not very common.

Probable needs the oil cooler due to the fairings.

My '89 GS has no fairing or oil cooler and I've had it up to 240 mph (indicated).

Just kidding.  It is broke right now.

Would someone (preferably a light-weight) please take a Baby GS out to a track and get the top-speed time-slip so we could have a final opinion on the top-speed of the thing? I am betting the stock bike won't run over 110 downhill with a 120 lb rider. Love the little GS, Brazil (frappe please), and this forum.

i got mine up to 200km+ indicated...when it was stock...
now i can EASILY get it up to 180+ with only slipon/rejet/pod filter...i'm sure it can go higher...

i'm 150lbs...and got a TINY headlight fairing...
wileyco, K&N pod, rejet 22.5/65/147.5, F16 flyscreen, progressive springs, 15t front sprocket...more to come: katana shock

Ive had mine to 115 mph and had to let off cause of traffic but my buddy said he got it to 130 mph and it started to shake so he let off.  :dunno:

When I had my 99gs with the targa fairing I had it up to 122mph indicated several times and  I weigh about 205lbs.  The fastest I've had my 05gsxr 600 is 151mph indicated.  Very big difference 122-151.  The gsxr could go faster though.  But no reason too unless your on the track.

You guys think engine break in also could have something to do with it? The better the break in, the better ability of the engine at higher speeds? Because I'mnot BS'ing at all. My stock GS500F with my 170lbs butt on it did 115mph easy (flat land) and I wasn't even topped out. I bet it could have went up to 120-125 anyways. No  :bs:  But I agree, there is no reason to unless your at the track or something like that. I rarely even go over 80.

I can't believe no one here has taken one to the track? :o

the fairing helps a LOT with wind resistance

Last couple of times at the track, my average speed was around 85mph. Tough to get a max speed, no speedo. I have to calculate max speed by rpm, gearing, and tire diameter.

I guess it is bad thing to take my TLR over 130mph on the street, 160mph on the track. I had my '88 ZX10 up to indicated 165mph once.

wind resistance i'm sure has a lot to do with it, and also elevation.

Much like drag racing, the closer you get to sea level, the faster you should be able to go, due to more oxygen available, thus more HP/TQ

I've never tried to see what speed my GS stops accellerating, but I've done 125 (indicated) many times, and always have been still accelerating when I backed off. subtracting 10% for speedo error, that's still 112.5 mph, with power not completely tapped at that speed.

I still have stock gearing, and stock tire sizes, but use a cafe style windscreen, weigh 150 lbs and tuck under the screen at 110. Of course I have all my mods to help too.

I'd imagine the bike can hit a true 120, maybe a bit more, given enough room
