More carb problems - Need help!

Sometimes I just wish I would've left them alone.  But I suppose it's too late for that so I hope someone has some ideas for me!   :mrgreen:

Here's my current setup:

127.5 / 40 / 2 washers under each needle / screw 3 turns out / Uni replacement filter / checked float height

Here's what happens.  The bike starts with the choke on but seems to die when I try to turn the choke off after the bike warms up.  I've messed with the idle adjust screw which seems to not help a whole lot, and I've messed with the air screw which also seemed to not really effect anything.  Also it seems to be running rough, like it could sputter out at any time.  


Any ideas?  It ran great last year and now I'm afraid I've kind of messed it up.

I just got to thinking, could it be maybe my spark plug gapping or float height?

I haven't tried the hose float height check, just the measurment method when I had the carbs off.

check your gaps on the spark plugs, should be btw .7 and .8mm.   check float height using the U tube method.  the gas should rise to the gasket.  

when choke is on it is richer so if it only runs on choke you must be lean.  im not sure exactly what the washers do but if using 1 washer would make it richer, try that?  that may be way off, i dont know much..

im guessing you are running a stock pipe?

stephan, i just got done with a rejet fiasco of my own.  i tried rejetting with a K&N lunchbox, it totally didn't run well at all so i tried going back to stock which was harder to do than i thought.  anyway, check the float height using the tube method as mentioned.  also, is any smoke coming out of the tank? what color? check your plugs, are they black and fouled or white(do this after running the bike for a couple of minutes.)

Nah weaselnoze, i said the hell with it.  i never had a pipe, just the k&n lunchbox.  after going back to stock, fouling up my plugs and backfiring loud enough to almost shaZam! myself, i finally messed around and got everything back to stock, just the way i like it.  i figure one day when i've truly taken her to her limits, i can skip the rejet and mod and stuff by buying a bigger bike.  someday .... one day .... how did the 150/40 work out for u?  i think the 150 is just way too big.

it worked great for me.  i did it in one shot.  3 turns out with no adjustments. bike runs perfect (seemingly) with no flat spots or bogging or whatever.
