Does anyone know of a good aftermarket tach for a 97 GS500e.  I am looking at buying a bike with a broken tach, and I don't really want to pay dealer prices.

Also, does an aftermarket fuel guage exist?

The Suzuki tach pre 03 is a mechanical unit. Some of the Katanas may be compatible. Some of the ebay part sellers list some tachs as being GS and Katana compatible. Buy at your own risk if not a GS tach. We really don't have anyone who has tried another (someone correct me if wrong).

In some markets, the 03+ have an electric tach. The US 04+ is electric. This lends itself to a better aftermarket and even digital possibility.

Same story on the fuel guage. None existed and I don't remember ever seeing a thread showing an attempt. It might be easier to graft a tank on that has a sending unit than try to make a GS tank use one.  Then you still have to wire up the meter showing fuel level. Most use the "run it till it sputters then switch to reserve" method.

Electronic tachs can be installed on any GS and most any bike. Early GSXR's and most Katana's work just fine, I have both. They must have a 3-wire connection. I have a write-up for installing them along with the different models and years of bike to use if you need it. I just never felt like posting it.
