Why won't my carbs sync?

I just rejetted and the bike is running much better but I am trying to sync my carbs and I can't make them equal.

At Idle I can adjust them to less than a inch from each other.  But then when I rev the engine they go out of sync immediately.  The same thing happens when I sync them at 3 or 4K,  The will sync up then fall out as soon as I change the RPM's.

This was also happening before I rejetted.

I am using a u-tube filled with motor oil.

If I use the two indivdual tubes thrown up over my rafters the oil goes to high.  If I didn't turn off the engine the oil would have come down the other side of the tube.

any suggestions on wh I should do?

Thanks

This may very well mean nothing but are the butterflies opening and closeing at the same rate? When the tension is off of them are they with the same gap at the bottom?

yes the butterflies do look like they are moving up and down at the same time.  And the gap does look to be equal.

I made the same type of sync tool in the link.

Right on. That was what I was thinking. I put the link in there incase someone  didnt know what you were talking about when you said U tube.

I have rebuilt many a carb but never one for the GS500 so I am not sure what other varibles are in play here.  Sorry I couldnt be of any real help.
I wander if one of the Diaphams might have a pin hole or slight tear?

OK Oil is 14th the density of Mercury so 1 inch oil is under an 8th of mercury ... whihc is the correct fluid ... and then ... and who ever said revving up is supposed to be equal on the 2 ... agreed, if they have been balanced and blue printed and you have the 2 cyls set to perfect valve clearances etc ... then yes ...  If not ... differences in flow rates, power and everythign else is bound to be a shade off ... heck the stock pipes will be so far off on the 2 its impossible to get it exact ...

I rejetted today and took it for a ride aroung the block a couple of times with an auxillary gas tank.  It was running much better.  No more hesitation or hovering Idle.  I just wanted to sync the carbs before I put the tank back on.  Maybe I am over reacting.  I thought that they oil levels where supoosed to be equal for all RPM's.  I am going to put my gas tank back on tomorrow and take it for a test ride.  It is supposed to be nice tomorrow.  I will check the diaphrams before I start.

Shoud I have tried to sync them with the air box and filter in or out?

The Buddha

OK airbox and filter dont matter ... I do them by eyeball ... with carbs off the bike ...

I synced them as close as I could.  Also I found out that the vent on my gas tank was blocked, so I cleaned it out with a pipe cleaner.  Just got back from a 100 mile ride.  Everything is okay.  All I need now is a new set of tires.

Thanks
