Couple questions about my new GS... (gauge/clutch Qs)

1. Will the new 04 gauges fit the older bikes?

2. My clutch seems to be kind of week.  It doesn't slip, but seems to take too long to engage, and is not very crisp.  What do I need to replace when doing a clutch job???

Thanks for any advice/help.  Jason S.

Here's a pic of my new ride...

Don't know why the pic won't display.  Guess you'll have to paste into address bar. :(

The link in your second post worked just fine for me.

Great question!  Can anybody answer this one?

Have you already tried to adjust the freeplay in the cable?

To do a clutch you will definately need new friction plates.  When I did mine, I went for the upgraded Kevlar plates and the stiffer clutch springs.  If the cluth has been abused (read as overheated) or is exceptionally old, I would also replace the steel plates.

You will probably want to change the oil and filter, and may also need a new case gasket as well.  The gasket can be reused, but often takes a crap when the cover is removed.  Really, its not too tough, and kinda fun.

The 04 tach is electronic. Not a direct bolt-on. It can be made to work with a little wiring effort. The existing cable connection in your head should be plugged.

The speedo looks the same with the mechanical pick-up on the front wheel.
Common sense in not very common.

I would try adjusting before digging in and replacing anything - if it does not slip it is probably not a bad clutch
