That guy

So im drunk right now. kick me in the ass. i started my bike when i got home tonight. dunno if you read my last thread or not but my bike has not been starting. i was trying trickle charge. but today i actually hooked it up to my car and charged it and then ran it. For some odd reason it reved to 3k rpm at full choke. then after a bit it ran at 1.5-2k rpm. my question is, when i take it around the parking lot it gives off a put put i wanna give up sound unless i give it a LITTLE more STEADY gas and then its fine. but if i rev it too quickly it dies. i gotta wait a lil. any ideas on why this happens. -THanks!!!

I think you're too lean/something is clogged (jets). What does it normally rev to with full choke?

Has the bike been sitting? For how long?

What's your idle set to?

Did you ever check your airfilter (in your previous thread: http://gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17854&highlight=)?

Scratch- Yes the bike was sitting for a while before i started riding it, i think like a few months and it was started randomly during that period... At full choke it revs between 3-4 rpm. I dont know what the bike idle is set to...is that the "three full turns" thingy i keep hearing about? ill do a search on it.

my check list:  -air filter
                     -oil change
                     -new battery?? dunno yet.

If the jets are clogged, do you recommend putting in some sort of carb cleaner in the tank and let it do its thing? Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Even with the random starting, the gas may have turned to varnish clogging the jets.

Good, that is normal. Usually, when it only revs around 3k it's due to old plugs.

No, three turns out refers to the pilot mixture screws (do a search on that, find the one with Kerry's pictures; it will also show you the idle adjustment screw).

You can do that, it's the long way of cleaning your carbs as it may take a while to actually clean the carbs, so you may still have a poor running bike for a while til the carb cleaner does its stuff.

Kerry

Here is the photo scratch referred to.  The Air/Fuel Mixture screws are hidden by the brass caps unless they have already been drilled out.

If you have an '01+ model things will look a little different under there.
