RVertigo

DAMN!  You're fast...  and good.

RVertigo

OK...  Now guess how I'm dealing with the agony of it all...

94suzuki500

umm, drinking what is in that bottle behind the stud?

RVertigo

Yeah...  But, what's IN the bottle?

94suzuki500

it says mexico on it so i would assume alchohol. :nono:

RVertigo

Heh...  What's wrong with alcohol?  It came after I broke my bike and realized that I'm not going anywhere for a while.

You think I can actually get that leftover out myself?  I figured I'd have to take it into a "professional."

And I think I will!!!

I'll bet that there is enough of that bolt left to thread two nuts onto, lock them together, and wrench on the inside one until that stud comes right out.  Drilling = last resort.

werase643

it's actually 5mm  (or 6 mm?)
the face of the nut is 10mm
if ya want to get technical

ya pull the stud and put a bolt in temp til ya get a new stud
want Iain's money to support my butt in kens shop

So...  It's not pressed in?

I'd be pretty happy if I could fix it myself...

Kerry

Nope, it's not pressed in.  I did a Search for "oil filter stud" and got a manageable set of results.  One of the oldest threads seemed to cover the topic the best:
Studs that hold the oil filter cover/HELP![/list:u]By the way, the part is only $1.12 from MrCycles.  Choose "OIL FILTER - OIL PUMP" from the dropdown list and check out item 11 in the diagram.  Notice -- the price list tells you that it's a 6x20mm stud bolt.  If you can find one locally, you're set!

...and alcohol isn't a bad thing for most - in moderation.

      YES!!!  I got it out!!!!

      Thanks! :thumb:

Now, I just need to find a replacement.

Wow, I broke the same part on Friday, glad I'm not the only one. I picked up a new stud (HAHA that sounds weird) for only 1.19 so I'm not too pissed about it. BTW, I haven't got mine out yet, but please elaborate when you say put two nuts together (also sounds weird) on it to get it out, I'm a bit confused.
