I may just be a stick in the mud, but I don't appreciate "the shocker" avatars that two of our members have.

For those that don't know what it means,  here is a definition.

I read this forum at work, and there are usually people behind me. Granted, I don't think that they would understand what "the shocker" is, but I still don't appreciate it. Our internet filtering is pretty loose here, and I would like to keep it that way.

There is a huge differece between starting a post marked with NKS or NSFW and using something like that for your avitar. I can avoid the NSFW threads if I want, but I can't avoid the avitars.

I'm not asking for censorship, I'm asking the people who have these avitars to change them out of respect for their fellow members.

That is ridiculous.

I had no idea what it was.  I assume you are talking about an avatar that has "shock" and "awe" over the fingers?  I had no idea what it referred to.

At any rate, I don't think the avatars themselves are NWS, anymore than an avatar of sign language would be NWS.

On another note, was the "shocker" in a movie or something?  Why all the sudden interest?  I find the odds of two people on one board using it pretty high unless there has been some recent media exposure.

For example, how did you know to be offended by a drawing of a hand?

I have no idea where it came from, or where I heard about it first. It wasn't recently, though. The first time that I remember hearing about it was about 5 years ago when a friend explained what it ment.

I seem to have made quite an ass of myself. I never really thought of myself as overly conservative or uptight, but perhaps it's time to revisit those possibilities.

Believe it or not, I wasn't calling you out. My intention was simply to see what other people thought. Since I seem to be the only one bothered by it, there really wasn't any reason to take it down.

I take it that you don't get breaks where you're from. I get 15 minutes every 4 hours.

I don't get paid for lunch, so I could take a lot longer than that. Do most jobs give a 1/2 hour paid lunch? I've never had a job that did, but I had this conversation with a co-worker recently and this is his first job that didn't have a paid 1/2 hour lunch.

no no i didnt mean paid.  i get the same as you.  1/2 hr paid, 1/2 hr not paid.  i work for 2.5 hrs, 1/2 break, 2.5 hrs, 1/2 break, then 2.5 more hrs.
