My 1999 gs is not running well. I had the carb cleaned at my local shop and installed. It ran ok for a bit then started to not idle at stop lights and back fire when leaving the light.

Last night it ran OK for a bit then backfired at a light. I stopped to look at some new Bandits at the dealer and when I went to leave the battery was to weak to turn the motor over. Even after driving home at 8000 rpm for 20 minutes the battery couldn't turn the motor over.

HELP this is Pssing me off.

I would check the voltage of your battery.  If you have less than 12.6 volts it is not fully charged.  Next check the voltage with the bike running.  You should get at least 13.5-14 volts.  If your not then there is a problem in the charging system.  If everything is ok there then pull the plugs and check for carbon fouling.  Its possible you may need to adjust your air mixture screws, since the carbs were removed and cleaned.

scratch

The backfire might be from valves. When was the last time your valves were adjusted?
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

OK the Vales have just been done last week. They were very out I was told.

Before I had the carbs clean at the shop the Right plug was black carbon and the Left was very white. I will need to check the plugs again tonight and see what they look like.

As for the charging I will check it tonight. I have a 1997 and 1994 gs for parts if needed. I'm hoping maybe the electrical problem is causing the poor running at low RPM.

This is what I get for letting the GS see me sitting on a 2005 Bandit 650.

or maybe the stealer swaped a bad batt for your good one, so you whould have to come back, and guess what they just happen to have one in stock......

GVH

no. The battery was sitting in the bike when I bought it. It's a no name one. My guy sells brand name only.

are you sure? oh and if I remember right Blueknyt posted about batt charging a while back, and mentioned that max charging is from 4-5000, but I've been known to be wrong.

OK bikes not charging and the battery is now totally dead. I took it for a quick ride around to see if it would charge the battery and it died, Nothing, nada dead. Called for a tow as my trailer is on loan and I was to far to push it home in 39 C weather today.

I had them tow it to the shop. I was then driven home two up on a BW50 yamaha. It rocked. So much fun to drive. The owners 16 year old kids scooter. He let me drive as he only had his M2 learner no passengers  until he gets his full M licence.

so yor bike's still running left?

On Monday it gets a stator and a new battery. Hoping this will solve the problem. I tried as used Reg/Rec off my other GS and it didn't help.
