Yay for me...  I joined the club.

2 up...    :nono:

I was just starting into a turn when a truck came flying by...  Stopped...  Didn't end up with the bars straight OR the bike balanced

Realized the bike was going down...  :o  Tried to stop it...  Ended in a slow set down mostly into grass.  :dunno:

No one was hurt...  Much...

Now the GS has a little more character than before.   :thumb:

Glad you're ok.

If u gotta crash, low speed is definitely the way to go.

No give me 80mph to the pavement anyday... :?

Thanks Cpt. Obvious :thumb:

Anyways... how is the rider? afraid of the bike now?

Hope not... I'm sure your pride will recover, consider yourself lucky the truck didn't take you out.
82 GS850GL..... yeah i kinda sold out

Glad you're allright. Better to stop and fall over than be run over. What was the situation? What did you learn?
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

My back hurts...  I think I pulled something, but I'm just sore...  It'll be better in a few days, I'm sure.

Afraid of the bike?  No...   Afraid of 2up though...  I think I'll wait a while before trying that again...  Did I mention it was the first time I was 2up on that bike?    Oh well...  No one got hurt.  The funny part is that my wife is less afraid of 2up than I am.  She was down with going out again.

It was totally a newbie mistake on my part...  I did pretty much everything wrong and would have been ok if I didn't start-stop...  Or if it was just me.

I learned that being off balance is harder to correct when you have an extra 100 lbs on the back.    So...  I have to pay A LOT more attention to balance and what I'm doing with the bars.

Live and learn...  I really shouldn't have put my wife on the back.  I really haven't had my GS long enough to risk other people's lives.   :nono:  But, at least I was smart enough to take it slow and stay off main roads.

davipu

you need to find some prostitute to practice with before you go with the wife.

You got me there... :nana:

fettcols

Did you ride it home 2up?
Fett's (CRASHED) Ride-Flush Mounts, Aluizio Undertail, Aluizio Hugger, Wileyco w/flange, K&N, Sudco Jets, Custom Painted Tail & Fender, 2wheeljunkie LED Tails & Factory Clip-ons       Now I'm rolling an old school GSXR1100 w/1260cc kit built by Joe Marasco himself and two Harley 883 sportsters!

 Yeah...

yeah passenger weight makes a big difference, I've had the second rider be anywhere from 105 to 160, even the difference from 140 to 160 is noticable, that 100 lb friend of my wifes wow... that was nice.. she is a friggen twig though.

Yeah...  A friend of mine calls my wife a "Pocket Wife."  She's just under 5'2" and about 100 lbs.

But...  Like I said...  TOTALY newbie mistake on my part.

Do you ride in the rain; what if it was raining and the road was wet?

I'll put in my low-speed experiences (and some MSF training); If you are going to turn [insert Yoda voice here], turn, or do not turn, there is no try. Before you commit to a turn, make sure you can complete your turn, look both ways, and so on, because, as you've learned, that to stop in the middle of a turn means that you are no longer vertical and you're going to fall over. With going slow, if you're going to turn at slow speed, make sure you have enough throttle to complete the turn. Don't lean the bike into a turn if you're not sure if you're gonna make it; once you're leaned over you better be committed to completing that turn.

Ja, I'm a little worried about taking anyone 2up - I'm 135, not a lot to balance out any reasonably sized passenger.  But I do want to do it, and I think for both of us, we need to practice and not mind a little character-addition... and have a passenger who doesn't mind a little character-addition...

Glad you're both OK!

I do ride in the rain...  If it was raining, I wouldn't have been 2up and would have gotten into the turn fast enough to outpace the truck...  I was trying to be "Extra careful" because my wife was on the back.

:thumb:   Yeah...  Turn or do not...  I like that.  I think I'm gonna get a tattoo that says that.   :thumb:

Heh...  You want a 165 lbs guy on the back?    Talk about hard to balance...

I bet you'd do better than me.  My biggest mistake was attempting 2up on a bike I have little experience on...  PLUS, I don't have all THAT much road time.

I was trying to keep it slow and careful...  I guess the best way to be careful is to avoid being stupid.   :thumb:

And...  I'm glad that all three of us are ok.   :)

My Name Is Dave

I'm finding that riding 2-up is not as hard as I would have thought. I take my ex-lady out every couple days and I feel as stable with her as I do without.

I'm actually posting because I think I just found the gayest avatar or whatever while looking for a Springsteen one. BSB4ever!!!!
