First I was a medic, now I'm a lawyer specializing in drunk driving cases.  Just don't do it - if you're lucky you'll see me in role number 2.  If you're unlucky, someone in role number 1 is going to put you into an ambulance with a snowshovel - no, really.

My favorite was the motorcyclist we couldn't find at the crash scene.  Just as we decided somehow he'd survived and gotten off to a hospital in a private car, we found him in the back of the panel van. He'd entered through the windshield.  BAC was "only" .11    It doesn't take much.

Your mileage may vary.

Man, I want some wine right now. Some pinot noir...yeah, that sounds nice

ahem. . .

That would be an argument in favor of dictating over typing. Typos fixed and thesis added.

Well I don't drink at all anyway, so....

So far, I've kept to my rule to not ride the day after taking cold medication.  If I wake up groggy from any meds, I figure it's not a good idea to ride.

I try to get a good night sleep before riding.  I'm a pleasure only, weekend rider tho.  So far....

None. Pretty much, if I've had a drink, I'm not going anywhere near my bike or a car for 3-4 hours, if not longer.

I'm a total lightweight. I get drunk very quickly, off of insignificant amounts of alcohol. I sober up fairly quickly, but still. No dice on the drinking and riding/driving.

davipu

cars are like bikes with training wheels, so you don't fall over at the light.

i have engine gaurds for a reason.
usually after the third pitcher I'll stop and go ride and enjoy the buzz, that way my beer money lasts longer.
since I've been out though, my drinking has slowed way down, it takes me a couple of hours to kill a half rack.

like I always say, I'm just not lucky enough to die.

In a car: one drink per hour is a good rule.

On my bike: one drink in the entire day (to be polite for a toast or something) is my limit.

I like riding; and I like drinking... a lot... but I can enjoy each and don't feel the need to mix them.

On the bike, it's one beer...  Then I wait an hour or so.  I usually only drink and ride after band practice, so... I have a beer when I get there...  Two to three hours later I ride home.

The SUV is different...  It depends on what I'm drinking and how much I've had to eat.

davipu

well it really seems to me that people will drink more and drive a vi-e-cal with less handling/braking ability because it feels safer.  nevermind that you may need that little extra ability when yor reaction time is compramised from the achacol.

RVertigo

For me, it's more about the damage in the case of an accident.

I'd NEVER drive if I'll be a danger to other people on the road (AKA Drunk)...  Screwing up my car is one thing... Killing people is something else entirely.

Balance is the first thing I lose when I've had a few.  When I'm sitting in a car that balances itself, I don't have to worry about it.  But, I have to make sure I'll make it out of a turn without screwing up.  If I screw up a little on a bike, I might just die...  And that's no good.

I'm in the bike does not equal car / hypocrite crowd.

One beer if on the bike, and usually only with food or at least an hour post-beer sit time.

In the car,  2 or 3 pints at happy hour is pretty much it.  If I'm hitting it hard with my college buddies we take a cab or that new light rail thing they have here in Minneapolis.

The worst ride I ever had was the day after one of the aforementioned rough nights.  It was over 12 hours since I'd had a drink, and my hangover felt like it was gone.  Riding just sucked. I was all over the place in corners, not as aware as I should have been, didn't enjoy it at all. Never again.

Its amazing how mood, allergy medication, booze, or lack of sleep so dramatically affect riding, especially in comparison with driving. OTOH, I've logged a lot more miles in a car than I have on a bike.

Whoever said they ride after 4 beers, please don't ride in my neighborhood.

Maybe one with dinner, if I'm at a bike night somewhere.

I once decided on a 12-hour rule, like pilots have.  But I'm pretty sure that I've gone to bed after midnight a bit happy, then ridden to work by 8, so I guess I've broken that.  Also, I've come close to riding a couple times, an hour or two after having one beer, but some other solution always came up.

The couple of times we've had after-work parties, I've taken the bus home.

I like beer way too much to be a tee-totaler.  But I like riding way to much to !@#$ it up, by riding afterwards.

Got drunk and rode ONE time. BUT in a car or truck was a different story. That would explain the two DUI's, and the rolled truck. Finally quit drinking a little over a year ago. Working on my GS and getting my license back at the same time. I'm glad to see that a lot of you don't drink, or drink very little. I had to learn that lesson the hard way.

If I ride, I don't drink.  A bike takes a lot more concentration and coordination than does driving a car.  It's important to me that I ride with a clear head.  :thumb:

I didn't ride for several weeks 'cuz I didn't have the right mental attitude due to being stressed at work.  Since I'm the smallest vehicle out there, it's important to be sharp -- and stay sharp.

On a motorcycle now and forever...No drinks and ride.

In the old days????  My limit was two joints of Hydroponic and a Jack with a beer back.  I decided that wonderful limit when I rode home and ended up 20 miles past my apartment because I couldn't get up the guts to change lanes.

I remember racing 600 Ninjas on a 380 Two Stroke Triple up a favorite canyon road to "the bridge where we keep the keg".  We'd party til' morning and then we would race to high school....

What a frikin moron I was.  I still am sometimes, but not because I drink and ride, I won't EVER.

Now that's funny.  I usually go for the 1 drink an hour then the last half hour before i leave i'm chuggin' water.  I'm actually meeting some friends tonight at the bar and am challenging myself to stick to non-alcoholic drinks tonight.  ... no wait... none of that!
LIFE should NOT be a journey to the GRAVE with the intention of arriving SAFELY in an attractive and well PRESERVED body, but rather to SKID in sideways, CIGAR in one hand, favorite beverage in the other, body thoroughly USED UP, totally WORN OUT, and screaming WOW - WHAT A RIDE!

GT Eye

I can't chance it; I'm worried enough about other people on the road, to drink and ride would put me at a huge disadvantage.

Ive driven drunk before, without much thought. Since quitting drinking (I don't like getting hungover) I have realized what a foolish thing it was.
