Anyone have any advice on building a ramp for moving bikes into a pickup truck? I'm thinking about a 2x6 w/ a metal L piece on one end to hook onto the cab.

atleast a 2x10, they make bolt on kits for end pieces, I know jc whitney had them for like 30 bucks it should be pretty easy to figure out the design and copy it.

in reality, I've done the pick up thing, had the ramp jump off the tail gate about 1/4 of the way up, came about a _____ hair from smashing the headlight.  ( that is why they tell you to cover yor rear brake.)  the best if your going to use a pick up is a loading dock, most stores have them and if you ask a manager around closing time when they are trying to go home will be like, dude sure i don't care.

next best is a pair of ramps atleast 8 feet long if straight (like boards) 7 feet if curved, and walk the bike up using the friction zone of the clutch.
lean the bike into you while you walk it up standing on the other ramp so you have three points of contact on the ground, only put the ramps about a foot apart, so that the bike is leaning into your hip area it works pretty good this way.

the two friends method works really good too. whare all three of you lift it up in there.

I was looking to build a ramp myself and just broke down and bought one of these aluminum ones at Tractor Supply. They show two but you buy them individually.

By the time I bought a kit and some lumber it would have cost nearly as much. This is light and uses some nylon webbing to cinch to the bumper so that the ramp can't slide off.

looking at that pic the angle between the ramp and tail gate looks pretty steep, does the bike clear that?

It wasn't even close on my truck. I don't have 4wd though so mine sits a little lower.

If I were Kerry I would have taken a picture at that point!
