what kinda experience have you had with icon??

i have the super heavy duty boots and where for a couple months but today the buckle came off while walking! Seems as if the screw holding the buckle on removed itself somehow. I wonder if the have a one year warrenty for something like this since I searched the sidewalk and couldnt find the screw. Next stop Canadian Tire

I've heard some pretty bad things about icon gear's crash-worthiness, though the Ti-Max gloves seem to be the exception.

Couldnt verify it, but a coworker of mine went down in an icon jacket (textile) and it came apart on him. He found a tag in the lining that said something like 'not inteneded for use as a protective garment' or some other legal disclaimer.

:dunno:

I like the TiMax glove, and thats about it.

I know someone who went down in a TiMax Jacket at 90 and it held up great.

I had their Superduty gloves, and they did nothing to protect my hand.  My finger was broken in two places, and a laceration down the side, and the glove was completely undamaged.
Then again, the offerings in women's gloves suck from any maker.  I'm making do with men's Speedmasters and the JR Phoenix for hot weather.

I do have an Icon NeoDaytona leather jacket, because it's the only one I found that fits me snugly.  If you find gear from another maker that fits, I'd go that route.

well your 90mph friend got lucky, i work at barneys and try on different jackets...the timax jacket is extremely thin, too high around the waist (i even havea  small torso), there is very little actualy padding in the jacket and it is priced ata  steep $200 and tax... I personally wear a tourmaster cortech gxair jacket, it goes well below the waist is nice and thick with two layers of the mesh weave and plenty of padding along with being soft on the skin AND machine washable (BIG plus compaired to joe rocket alter ego jacket which also feels too thin and is rough on the skin and can't even be machine washed).. when i look at icon gear i think "poser gear" icon is for the look not the protection, basically i see people riding around with icon spine protectors and no shirt on ....wtf comes to mind..alot of their equipment offers very little protection at a high $ price.

anyway, thats just my opinion on their gear, i highly reccomend cortech gx air jacket for protection and comfort, joe rocket is good also but not as comfortable and rides a little high on the waist.

For mesh, I like my JR Phoenix - it goes a good way down the back and has substantial armor.  Reflective seams and logos, too.

yeah ive only tried the alter ego and it rides up my back a little, of course easily solved with a zipper, but not every pair of pants i have have jacket zippers  :guns:

And my Firstgear pants, which fit great, have a zipper - in the opposite direction of the one on my Phoenix jacket.   :x

unstitch and resew in the opposite direction?

I have an Icon Timax Jacket, and love it!  Never bailed, so i don't know if it will hold up, but realistically, when u throw ur leg over the seat, in the end ur taking that chance that u might get hurt.  i also have the icon super duty wrist gloves and they are great!  I've only heard good things about icon, but that is just me.  Whatever u get, don't think it will protet u from everything. When u go down it will hurt!
I'm Canadian EH!

I have a TiMax Jacket as well as Super-duty gloves.  The gloves seem a little thin, but are very comfortable and almost like a second skin.
As for the TiMax jacket, I love it. Its very comfortable and useful on those cooler days with its removeable fleece liner.

I will get around to it, but it's a PITA that folk don't standardize it.

I have a super-duty jacket, too now that I think about it. I haven't been wearing it this summer. It's thick and has good quality. The sleeves are leather and the torso is thick textile, with armor in the shoulders and elbows, padding on the back. I'd feel safe if I went down in it.

Especially since it has that little St. Christopher (the protection saint) medallion sewn in.  :thumb:  It really is pretty cool though how they did that.

For summer I'm wearing my JR Phoenix mesh. I want a different mesh jacket, though. This one's too bulky. It's like wearing football pads or something. Which is not what I want to feel like while riding. Really, considering how long the mesh will hold up in a crash, I think all that super-football-padding is kind of wasted. Anyway... I only have a limited experience with Icon because I buy cheap-o gear cause I'm poor. Cheap-o gear rox! Vega helmets save lives! Crash tested, mother approved.

Hey Roadstergal,
I run a canvas shop & can sendf you the 1/2 of the zipper you need.  Sew it directly over the top of the old one.  It's hard to "unstitch" things & have it come out right.  PM me if you're interested.

I found the original bill of sale and headed to the Kawisaki shop just outside of the city. I told them what happened and they actually took a screw out of another boot and gave it to me! Now thats service!!!

I was looking around in the shop and the Z750S is a sweet looking bike...

Precisely because mesh probably won't hold up as well in a crash, I want as much padding as possible.  I have a JR Phoenix.

Danke for the advice.  Both the jacket and pants both came with both sides of the zipper, so I can do that with what I have here. :)
