I'm sort of new to maintaining a bike, I have a 2004 GS500F. The light for the brights has stopped lighting up.
How would I attempt at fixing this?

Carefully remove the bulb not touching or hitting the glass on anything. Greas, dirt or oils even from your fingers can ruin the bulb.  Now look at the filaments (the little curly wires in case you might not know) and see if one is broken.  You might have to look real close to find a little break in the filament.  If you have a test light or voltmeter you could check this way as well.  There should be one ground and the two hot wires which are switched by the hi/low switch.  If you need a new bulb I would suggest Sylvania Silverstars H4 bulb.  A little more expensive but well worth it!

Your talking about the High Beam indicator right? If so, go purchase a 194 type bulb and just take the old one out and put the new one in. Its under the tach and speedo. Just look around there. Not that hard to take out. I have a 2004 gs500f too, and mine just burnt out 2 days ago also. Weird.

Lights burning out is considered normal wear and tear, not manufacturer defect... at least, 'twas for my F650.  High beam indicator burnt out after a month.

"Standard" one-year warranty! Every major bike manufacturer here gives two years, usually with a period of AA or similar recovery as well. Suzuki gives one year, Honda gives two.

i know that Triumph over here gives two years, unlimited miles.

Thank you to everybody that responded to my post, I appreciate it being new to the forum. I think I know what happened because last night I broke down on the highway because of a blown fuse. I think the wire to the brights came disconnected and blew the fuse. It really sucks pushing a bike up a ramp. Oh well, lesson learned

The indicator lights do seem to go out quickly.  I replaced the tach bulb when I bought my bike 2+ years ago (I think I went from 158s to 194s).  After that, the high beam indicator went first; then the neutral indicator (never trusted it anyways), then the blinker indicator last month.  The oil indicator light (the one I actually care about) is the only indicator light still working. I'm pretty sure that I haven't been able to go 6 months without one of those 6 bulbs dying.  I'm thinking of replacing the 4 indicator bulbs with single-LED lights:

... 89 cents each at superbrightleds.com; anyone have a suggestion (good idea and where to buy; or bad idea?).  The speedo/tach are probably harder to illumate well with LEDs, so I'll just leave them incandescant.
