Absolute Rescue

I went to go ride Sunday afternoon, Pulled the bike out and went to start it. When I turned the key on I had no power at all, I did what most would, took out the battery charger. After hooking everything up I cheched the meter on the charger, normally they count backward from 0, the needle never moved. so I turn on the key, and the meter on the charger jumps up to 3, and I get very dim lights. Instead of leaving the key on to charge the battery, kind of counter productive with the lights on, I attempt to jump it. The bike started on the first crank. I let it run for about 10 minutes hooked up to the truck. I unhooked the cables with some help because the battery still didn't really hold a charge so I wanted to make sure it kept running. I proceed to ride around the block for about 20 minutes. I finally decide to turn the bike off and try to restart it hoping i get something...NOTHING. I called the dealer monday as the bike is only 4 weeks old, they told me to bring it in asap and said the electrical system may be shot! praying that I get it back for this weekend. Just wondering if anyone else had a similar problem.

I had a wierd electrical problem where the fuse would blow every time you tried to start the bike, unless the wheel was turned to the left.  They finally tracked it down to a faulty starter switch.  That happened about 2 months after I bought it.

I came out one morning and tried to start my bike for a nice long ride.  Dead battery!  doh!

Bump started it and it's been fine ever since.  Spooky.

The only thing I could think of was that I turned the key too far to the left when I shut the bike off the night before and left it in "parking" mode.

We'll never know  ;)

don't know, but if you just rode the bike around the block.. especially if you are adhering to break in procedure, i know the battery doesn't begin to recharge itself until after something like 3.5k rpm's...

hope you get it back for the 4th!
LIFE should NOT be a journey to the GRAVE with the intention of arriving SAFELY in an attractive and well PRESERVED body, but rather to SKID in sideways, CIGAR in one hand, favorite beverage in the other, body thoroughly USED UP, totally WORN OUT, and screaming WOW - WHAT A RIDE!

I had a problem with the original battery holding a charge on my F also. Finally gave up and replaced the battery. No problems in 6 months.  :dunno:
Showing my age, just not acting it.

Well I got my bike back yesterday, seems the problem was a faulty battery. It was covered under warranty so all is well again. Enjoy the riding weather this weekend, and be safe. Thanks for the replys.
