A few weeks ago i replaced the stator in my bike, i laid it on its side so i didn't have to change the oil at the time.  It might have been layed down for an hour or so tops.  Bike is running like crap now.  First thing i did was replace plugs, as i thought i might have fouled one out by laying it over.  Ran like a top for about 20 minutes, then it runs bad, all out dies after about a mile now.  I checked the filter and the bottom of the filter has came loose(trying to replace as we speak).  But isn't dirty.  Anything else i should check, im at a loss as to why it is suddenly running like crap.

You're talking about the air filter?  UNI perhaps?

See how it runs when you get the end back on.  That might be the whole problem.

A few years ago, when my K&N in-airbox filter hadn't come in and I was worried about running with a dirty filter (backwards thinking, I know) I rode to work one day without any filter at all.  It ran plenty weird alright.  And kinda loud, too.

forgot to state before, but did it make it backfire and i smell a lot of gas coming out of exhaust.  Also if this is the problem, why did it get better when i changed plugs?

Heh heh.

So, what do your plugs look like now?  With the smell of gas from the pipe, I would expect to see one or more carbon-fouled plugs.  Like this:

You didn't say what your old plugs looked like when you took them out.  If there was some carbon like in the picture, then perhaps it took 20 minutes for the new one/s to get to the same state?

You put the end back on the filter yet?
I came here to kick @$$ or chew bubblegum...and it looks like I'm all out of bubblegum.

yeah last night i got the end taped back on as a temp fix Also put in a second set of new plugs.  And i did a little more inspecting of the whloe bike, and found someone already tapped in a fuel filter. After i got the bike started again with new plugs, i started watching the inline and seen it was getting a lot of air bubbles in it, so i found a bad spot in the line and replaced it, as of now the bike is running decent, not perfect tho.  And no my plugs didn't look bad at all.  Since they were only 1.59 a piece, i figured i could eliminate those as possibility's and jus replace them again.  Also the plugs i took out were a different part number as the ones i put in last time.  I dunno if that had any affects or not tho.  Im gonna go ride in a few minutes and see what happens.  lata

Seems as though it was the combination of the air filter and a cracked fuel line, coming off the petcock.  What happened to my air filter, weazle?
