Hey..

 I have been having fuel starvation probs. with my GS.. I have an inline filter that I suspect may be the prob. Now I dont want to just remove it.. because my tank screen is gone, and the tank isnt the greatest inside...

So.. Do they make a high flow fuel filter?.. or some type of filter to replace the small clear plastic one I have? I have seen some but I would like to know what any of you have used.

Have any of you had starvation issues corrected by removing the fuel filter?

Have any of you used a high flow fuel filter? What kind ? where from ?

Just curious,  how do you know the problem is flow through the filter?

I am still checking to see exactly what the prob is.. I have tried

opening the gas cap while its happening ( no vacume)

Run on Prime. ( i have to anyway)

Carbs are clean

No kinks in lines


I would like to try another fuel filter next.. I really dont want to run it at all w/o one

I assume that the filter is between the ON/RES/PRI switch and the carbs?  Someone in the past did some experimenting and found that if the filter is situated at the top of an up-and-down segment in the hose, air bubbles can get trapped in there with nowhere to go.

If that's the case for you, consider shortening the hose or moving things around so that the filter is in the middle of an ascending or descending section of the hose.

My filter seems to be in a good location. Tomorrow I plan to run w/o the filter  for a bit to see if that makes any diff.  Anyone use a high flow fuel filter?

My bike runs fine even up to 70-80 mph np.. Until you try and hold a higher speed for a bit anything above 50.. It starts to jump, and loose fuel.. HELP

I used the 5/16" Purolator Pro-Fuel filter from the local Pep-Boys.

It was the only filter I could find that had replaceable elements and right sized connectors.  The cheap plastic ones from the M/C stores were all too small.

It comes with a small length of hose, which I used to connect it to the output of the PRI/RES/RUN petcock switch, making sure to cut the old hose (running to the carbs) down to account for the extra length.  I then wrapped it in a length of inner tube to keep it from rattling on my frame.  Works great!  Never had a problem with starvation.

That was just what I was looking for. Right now I have the crummy little plastic one from the bike shop.. I just know that it is my prob :dunno:  I found some @ Advance Auto (thats what we have here). Your post helped me see what to look for!
