Need a new rear tire.

Ive searched and read alot about rear tires. I need a new tire this week, mine is dangerously square. I learnt my lesson about doing too many burnouts. Right now my bike scares the crap out of me when i come and take a corner, so i will buy a tire this week.

I want a slightly widder tire on the rear, and found that the local kawasaki dealer has a BT45 140/80/17 in stock which i could go get. My question would be if this would fit? According to bridgestones website, it says that the 140/80/17 will fit a 3.5 inch rim. It also says that a 150/60/17 will fit a 3.5 inch rim, but i dont know if it would fit the GS. I know through searching ppl have put 140/80/17 tires, but havent read where someone put a bt45 on. And about the pireli sport demons. Is it better then the BT45? Both in the 140/80/17

Stefan.

I've read a few things that say the 140s fit, but do nothing good for you (other than looking a little wider)...   :dunno:

I just got a Sport Demon 'cause it was in stock and affordable...

i put a cheap 150/60 on mine a while back and it fit barely i mean not hardly any clearence at all, it actually rubbed the caliper bar a bit and the chain would slap it , pluss hurt handling. looked good though.  not long after ditched it for a dunlop 140 70/17 does great its almost as tight as the cheap 150, i guess some of the cheaper brands are not exactly what there supposed to be but anyway the 140 works great fits fine and looks better , it is a hair sluggish in the corners but once you get use to it its fine i wouldnt go back to a 130 .

140/80/17 will fit fine, 150- series will fit but they become pinched into a profile that causes the tire to wear unevenly and makes for "interesting" cornering.

this info can be found in most of the other "what tire" threads, you must not have searched too hard  :P

the dunlop d205 150/ 70 fits...... that's what i'm riding on!! :)

Mmmmm, the only 140/70/17 tire I can think of that comes from Dunlop is the K505 OEM tire for the 750 Nighthawks.

I went to my dealer and I just bought a rear 140/80/17 pirelli sport demon. I stil have my front which is a BT45. The salesman told me that mixing tires wasnt that big of an issue and he beleives its a myth. I went to look at the Dunlops, and noticed that the 180 they sale is not as wide as the 180 bridgestones. So the 150 dunlop some ppl have could be same width as the 140 bridgetones. Pretty crazy stuff. Anyways my tire is coming in on monday. So i will post pictures of it on my bike.

I got my Pirelli Sport demon installed today. Its a 140/80/17. Does anyone want me to post pictures? Its a higher profile tire and looks ALOT bigger from the side. It also raised the rear of the bike. I think it looks cool. Let me know.

Wider and taller?  Did it screw with the handling?

Did you find that it's changed the top speed or power at all?  I know it's not much of a difference between a 70 and an 80, but...  Who knows.

Ditto. Let's see it!

Ill go take a picture right away. I did notice that it did affect the "flickerability" of the gs. I used to be able to swivel around the road lines (passing lines I.E: white or yellow striped line) with the gs at pretty much any speed. I can still do it, but its alot harder. Most of you probably wont even notice the difference unless you like to swerve like i do. Its fun. Apart from that i didnt notice any difference at all.

I went from a Bridgestone 130 that was TOAST to a Sport Demon 130 on the rear...  I noticed a huge difference 'cause the new tire was round and the old tire was not...  12,000 miles on a tire will do that.   :?

I had the old 12,000 mile front tire on for a few more days before getting the new sport demon front....  and again I noticed a huge difference.  I can "think-turn" the GS now.  It's friggen sweet!   :thumb:
