hey thats not too bad I've been replacing part after part on my rm125 since last race season when I seized my engine. worst of all I've already missed 2 events this season, but once I got wrenching I wanted to make it the best it can possibly be. So far 184cc race head, new pvr ignition, new camshaft, new aluminum bbr frame, bbr exhaust, clutch springs, timing advance, inverted jpp front shocks, bbr rear shock, bbr intercooler, and alot of other small stuff. You think thats all? Gotta get my Aquatrax R-12X ready for the water, get my wileyco on the GSF, re-torque the cylinder head bolts on my friends crf250, bore out my friends yzf125 and replace the pistons and on top of all that the only time I have to work on all that is 1am-3am after I get off of work.

cheers

my son stripped the front sprocket on the 250 and the float broke on the dirt bike.  neighbors kids bike is back with carb problems ands the 110 atv now has no brakes.  but the go cart still works.    I replaced the the sprocket on the 250 the other day,  got done and rolled it backwards to adjust the chain..  guess what ---rolled it over my snap ring pliers and punctured the front tire  :x  :x  :x .   more money and more parts wahooo.  maybe I should get stock in bike bandit :dunno:

Ok ... I had to jump in here.

Here is my list, starting from today and going backward.

1)  Blew the head gasket in my 1969 Austin Mini Cooper and warped the head.  Just got the head back a few days ago with new valve seats and guides, adjusted the the valves three times yesterday, got the car running nicely, and then poof, when I turned on the headlights to take the car home after spending 12 straight hours on it, something short circuited, and now the car is dead.

2) Had kickstart problem with my 1993 Honda NSR 250 SP.  Took gearbox apart, turned the motor over by hand, unbound the crank, put everything back together, got the bike running.  Rode for 10 minutes and then it seized.  Probably bad crank bearings ... pulled the engine out and there its been sitting on the workbench because all my time lately has been consumed by number 1 and number 3.  If it is bad bearings, I'll probably have to get them from Japan, Thailand or Australia, if the one or two parts houses in the US don't have them.  (In this case, though, the headaches are worth it because this bike, when running properly, is amazingly fun to ride ... and there is nothing that looks or sounds like it virtually anywhere in the US.)

3) Radiator hose tore, causing my 1980 Austin Mini to overheat.  Did the mandatory peek into the radiator, saw oil where it shouldn't be, and took the (again) warped head to the machine shop.  Now they tell me there are internal cracks that cannot be repaired.  Car is now sitting in a corner of the garage as I steal parts off it for number 1.  Oh well, maybe this means that once I get some money, I'll get a ported Longman head for this one and build a real 140hp, 1400lb Mini.

4) Bought a scooter (cheap) from a friend so I wouldn't have to commute in the Minis after I totaled my (liablity insured only) 1994 Honda Civic.  A week into riding the scooter the motor died.  It don't know if it seized ... I've been busy enough with numbers 1-3 that I haven't even looked at it.

5) I have a 1989 Honda NSR 250.  The bike is ready to ride ... except I can't find the key for it.  Anywhere.  I know that I could go to the dealer and (probably) get a key made if I brought them the ignition.

But I think I'll save this task for the day when I take a look around at the four crippled vehicles sitting in the garage and decide that, on this day, I'm not going to fight the shadetree mechanic's constant battle with headaches and frustration.  Then I'll clean and put away my tools and do something else.  Like drive to the motorcyle dealer where I'll spend a nice hour or so gazing at the line of new bikes that I can't afford ... and then find new inspiration to go back and get the NSRs up and running.

ok I think you got me beat.  both 4 wheelers are now repaired and working still.  the go cart is up for sale (so I'll never have to fix it again).  The gs is almost done.  then I can start on the 2 project cars I have (70 chevelle ss -- partially resotring/modifying, and a 67 camaro drag car).  oh yeah ,  the riding mower died tonight-  the deck rusted and several key welds broke.  Im waiting on some sheet metal patches from dad to repair  --  I guess it never ends!!

Naw, I don't think so.  You're a dad and a homeowner - that's a lot more responsibility.

I'm a single renter.  So when things like break, like the toilet did the other night, the fix is (usually) just one - sometimes two or three - phone calls away.  And my share of the utilities covers the grounds maintenance, so I never have to get near a hedgetrimmer or mower.

I have enjoyed reading about your onslaught of mechanical disasters.  At least what's been frustrating for you has been entertaining for others ... maybe because we can emphathize all too well.

well if you thought that was humorous here's some more.  the other night the pool filter self destructed (bearing in the pump decided to eat itself)  got that fixed but not before the pool turned green...  The kids and I were planing on going to Haspin acres to ride dirtbikes/atvs tomorrow and celebrate my oldest boys birthday.  got home about 7:00 tonight and went out to give the dirtbike and atvs a once over.   the dirtbike wont run-- sent the wife after a plug now its fine.  started the small atv went around the yard "yikes" no brakes.  found the rear break lever had split  factory weld and the cable came out.  clamped it and rewelded now its fixed.  checking the big atv --  the chain was loose again (just tightened it thursday) -- tried to tighten it but couldn't get it right.   it would tighten, I turn to pickup a wrench, turn back it has 3" of slack again.  tried again and noticed that the axles was rocking back and forth 3" inches.  looked around and noticed wheel bearing grease covering the inside of the skid plates..   Pulled the rear axle out and found the bearing had self destructed..  dont know why it had plenty of grease,  no water or dirt in the housing. :dunno:  :dunno:   so much for spending the day in the mud with the kids :( .   maybe it was a sign that we shouldnt go riding :dunno:
