Just wanted to say hi and welcome.

As far as the lowering goes I have not looked into that so I can not help you there, but all of the gs from 89 to current are pretty much the same so I'm thinking the different links in the rear (dog bones?) and adjusting the front forks are the basics.

Good luck with the GS.

Before you try the dogbones, try shaving the seat first.   Also get some good riding boots with a thicker sole.

Hi there.....I'm only 5'2" tall and I hava a 04 model.   I took my seat to a good upolster shop and he shaved some off the top of the seat and took a shaving off the sides as well because the seat is quite wide.  I also wear boots with a high sole and the bike is quite comfortable.....I didn't want to mess with trying to have the bike lowered. A lot cheaper then buyng a lowering kit.

hope this helps
Don't get caught with your bike down :)

5'2" here as well... I just wear boots with thick soles and softened the rear shock.
