Im thinking about purchasing a new bike.  Right now I pay $360 for my GSE a year.  I called up my Insurance Company and asked for a quote on a 2005 Suzuki GSXR-1000 and they said if i keep my GSE on the insurance plan (which i prob. will) they said my insurance will only go up $150 a year!  Idunno but that seems kind of low to me, shouldnt' it be more like $1400 a year or something?  I asked the guy to double check and he said he is positive.  By the way im 18 years old.

Anyhow I think i'm ready for a litre bike.  This past 5 months i put over 10k miles on my bike and went on three 800 mile trips to my mom's house in Delaware.  No accidents so far and when I first got my bike about 8 months ago i didn't know how to ride good.  I think i accomplished and learned a lot these past 8month.  I ride my bike everyday rain or shine to work and college.  So hopefully i can start riding a litre bike pretty soon!

if your goal is just to have a liter bike than your on it for the wrong reasons.   the rule of thumb with new bike purchases is never go more than double the HP of the previous one.    your looking at 180 hp  from 40.  you ever accidently blip the throttle going over a speed bump? do that with a ltr and it will plant you on your ass with the bike several hundred feet away.

Pinoy21337

COme on man im not scared of the front wheel coming up.  Ive dont hundreds of wheelies on the gs and no accidents so far.  The reason for the 1000 is that if i get a 600 gxsr i will out grow it, if i get the 750 i would want to trade itin for a 1000 later so why not the 1000.  After 2005 all bikes cant have modified mufflers or anything, a law is being past.  If you you purcahse a 2006 bike and alter the muffler or exhast system in any way you can get fined big time.  I dont need a lecture on how the bike will do wheelies in 1st or 2nd with a twitch of the throttle hand or how it can go 90mph in first gear.  The main reason for this post is for the insurance quote and how accurate it seems.  And who makes the HP rules anyway about not to double it on another bike.  If i get the 750 i dont want to go threw hassle of trading it in for a 1000 down the road.  I plan on keeping the 1000 for a very long time.

I jumped up to a 600 relatively quickly. It was a bad move on my part, and I believe my inexperience was the ONLY factor in the wreck I had. I should have kept my GS, I firmly believe that. Just listen to a word of advice. IF YOU REALLY REALLY REALLY feel you are ready to move up, dear god dont go to a 1000....there have been so many returned to a local shop after literally 15 miles on the odo because the rider "wasnt scared about picking the wheel up". Have a frickin brain main...if you really want to get a 1k, hey its your life, go nuts...ride fast die hard apparently....

The more you guys tell me not to get it or tell me stories about people purhasing it and making the wrong decision makes me want to get it even more!  Everybody is diff. man, i was born to ride!

so why did you even get a 500 to begin with? if your just going to outgrow a 600/750?  you should have just gotten the 1000 first off and just been really careful.   the point of the hp doubling thing, is so you can adjust yoru riding style to the different accel rates of having a more powerful bike.  your looking at a 450% hp increase over the gs.  just from exprience being 18 once myself.  you can't handle it.  your young you don't think with the head on your shoulders.  but hey man, prove me wrong.

I personally never saw the appeal of an 1000cc bike. First off saying you will get tired of 600cc then 750cc and finally 1000cc. A liter bike cant do that much more then a 600cc then maybe a higher top speed and a second or 2 faster 0-60. So you'll get bored going 140mph and want to go 180mph? Also, it sounds like you just want to have the biggest there is only because you think for some reason you'll for sure get bored. Ha! So if there were 1500cc bikes ehh fuke it. I'll get tired of 600, 750, 1000, I'll just got w/ a 1500cc.  Because I'll just get bored w/ a 1000cc.

In my opinion a 1000cc bike is too heavy. Plus they guzzle gas which is why I love motorcycles for there great mpg.  Plus they cost too much to maintain. I wouldnt mind having a big displacement Cruiser maybe. But as far as sport bikes I'm sure I would be happy with a 600cc even dare I say, a 750. But who knows, maybe I'll have to upgrade to a liter and a 1/2 bike one day.

Actually the 2005 model of the gxsr-1000 is lighter than the older 600cc models.

Just get the Hayabusa GSX1300R...  Then you'll have even longer before you outgrow it.

You'll have to wait for someone to make a faster bike.

Oh wait...  Screw that...  Get a top-fuel drag-racing bike.  There's no way you could outgrow that...  At least for a few years. :thumb:

You're getting yourself in WAAAYYYY over your head. Ride a CBR 600RR; I guarantee you won't feel like you have grown out of it. Ever. Get a buddy to let you borrow his. Don't have this cocky little attitude- it'll get you hurt at the very least.

Hayabusa GSX1300R!!!

I don't think it's possible to outgrow that thing.  Especially if you kill yourself on it.

You dont need a litre bike especially coming from a 500 you are making your coice no matter what i tell you. But wait what the hell are you going to do on a litre bike that can't be done on a 750? Most of the people i know riding litre bike have 15 years experience and recomended the gs as my first bike then several others before trying to buy an r1 exc. Sure there are stories about people learning on litre bikes exc. Trust me I have a few freinds that are paying off big bikes that were crashed from inexperince.  Oh yeah one of them did thousands of wheelies throughout the years.  He came down on one wrong and that was the end of the bike.   You will not know what the hell to do when that front wheel starts lifting when you power out of a turn to early and you are still leaning.  Oh yeah then the whole top speed thing over about 150 you are outdriving your sight.  This means you will see something and if you havent started moving upon sight Wham.  Just trust everybody here and get a 600.  PS the gsxr 750 is a favorate bike even of many litre bike owners.

Hmmm.. maybee the 500cc GS is too much ehh?? Should we all start off on 50cc bikes? Why chastise everyone who wants a bigger bike? I have only been riding 3 months and I rode my friends busa for 200 miles. I didnt die, I wasnt even remotley scared of it.. yea its fast but if you have a good head on your sholders you can ride any bike. I am still plenty happy with my little GS but I dont see the point in being affraid of a bigger bike. If you are comfortable on it buy it.. But ride one first! I dont think that all that power is worth it.

You were born to crash too. Lets see, you've done 10k miles in 8 months, "commuting". thats just over a thousand a month...I did that riding once a week. If all you've done is do short trips around town commuting and thats all you're going to do then a liter will be okay. but get it out of your head that you'd outgrow a 600 or 750. I regularly spank liters on my 600 at the track, just like I used to spank 600's on my gs500 in the canyons. Its not the size of the bike, its the rider.

You'd be better off getting a 750 actually. best all around bike. even the magazines have said the gsxr 750 is a better bike than the liter gixxer. the liter has too much power to get on the gas as early as the 600 or 750 so you can run faster lap times on the smaller displacement bikes.

You are buying a new, biggest/baddest bike for all the wrong reasons. You have not outgrown your gs. You will not outgrow a 600.
