First off I'm a new rider on my first bike.  Bought a 2005 GS500F have like 40 something miles on it now  :)

I'm about to start using it to comute to work and what not.  Was just wondering what you all would suggest as a good Tank Bag that won't obstruct my view of my instruments.

I'm looking for something that possibly has a map pocket that I can glance at while riding at the least.

Any help from you Vet's would be great.

Thanks

use the search function at the top of the page and you'll find lots of different options...

Good luck and welcome!
LIFE should NOT be a journey to the GRAVE with the intention of arriving SAFELY in an attractive and well PRESERVED body, but rather to SKID in sideways, CIGAR in one hand, favorite beverage in the other, body thoroughly USED UP, totally WORN OUT, and screaming WOW - WHAT A RIDE!

I use a back pack or a fanny/belly pack strapped to the back portion of the seat.

I have thought about getting a small tank bag but all of the local shops only have the big ones.  I like to see things before I buy them.

the are lots of small tank bags out there, JR has a cool looking one, and e-bay always has tons of them.....to me a map pocket and at least two small zippered pockets is a must......unfortunately they are way too expensive for what they offer, and with 6 zipped pockets in my pant and jacket I can't justify forking over 80 bucks for it...so i use a back pack (shopping for a tailbag now though)

It would be a very big tank bag to obstruct your view of the instruments, don't worry about that angle. Most come with a transparent map pocket on the topand a storm cover.

I have a fairly cheap Oxford-1 bag, it came with lots of extras to convert to rucksack-shoulder bag-simple carry case. I find it brilliant. One word of caution about tail packs, lots of people are very happy with them but there have been safety issues with stuff slipping into the rear wheel. If you go for a seat-tail option make sure you know exactly what is going on behind you. That is one of the strengths of the tank bag option. There are loads about, buy the best you can afford and stop looking!

fit's great on the gs.  I picked mine up off of ebay for 15 bucks, and the carrying handle in the front doubles as a slurpie holder.

Ha, I've beaten Kerry to it!

I've been very happy with my Tourmaster bag.  It's the "nylon magnetic".  12 liters, expandable, with a map pocket.  Comes with a little waterproof elastic cover thing in case it rains.

+1 on the Nelson Rigg MG950.  Good quality bag, take it to work every day.

I have the Joe Rocket Manta bag also, I like it. It's the perfect size, can be folded up if you need to remove it and comes with a rain cover.  Plus it matches my jacket, for the vain part of me (and will match my the ZZR600 I'm getting in the spring)

I just got the Icon Urban Tank Bag a few weeks ago, and it was the best luggage investment that I've made. Plenty of room, awesome features for the type of commuting that I do.

Easy to grab money for the bridges out of the map section, and big volume to stick an insulated bag for the lunch. Side pockets for the little bits, and the bottom pocket is good for the wallet and other flat stuff.

I actually use the helmet holder on a regular basis too.
