Quote from: aaronstjIt's a good thing he's taken the MSF class, though, right?  I mean, he has taken the class, hasn't he?  :roll:

If by MSF course, you mean Merely Speeding Forth, then yes. He's taken the MSF course.

Quote from: Pinoy21337Im thinking about purchasing a new bike.  Right now I pay $360 for my GSE a year.  I called up my Insurance Company and asked for a quote on a 2005 Suzuki GSXR-1000 and they said if i keep my GSE on the insurance plan (which i prob. will) they said my insurance will only go up $150 a year!  Idunno but that seems kind of low to me, shouldnt' it be more like $1400 a year or something?  I asked the guy to double check and he said he is positive.  By the way im 18 years old.

Anyhow I think i'm ready for a litre bike.  This past 5 months i put over 10k miles on my bike and went on three 800 mile trips to my mom's house in Delaware.  No accidents so far and when I first got my bike about 8 months ago i didn't know how to ride good.  I think i accomplished and learned a lot these past 8month.  I ride my bike everyday rain or shine to work and college.  So hopefully i can start riding a litre bike pretty soon!

haha your funny, haha this is a joke right...is it?...oh no he is serious.

have you even ridden a 600?  they will put you on your butt on the highway runnin 70.  and the new 1000 is just as small as a 600 and ten times the bike. and i thought i made my self look like a know it all, thanks for taking my place. :thumb:  :lol:

Troll.  :roll:

And in the slight case that you are serious, you have no idea what you are in for. Everyone is telling you this for a reason, I'm sure a few of them have "been there done that" ... and you haven't. Do the math. :roll: I havent heard a single person that has said a litre is better than a 600 on the street.

I say go for it! :thumb:

He must be one of those gifted riders.....

8 Months on the GS and less than 50 posts and everyone trying to tell you what you should really be thinking about.....everyone here is right. I know from first hand experience.....I really don't want to give all the details but....lets just say I bought me a new 2005 1k Yellow and Black toy sitting in my garage the has less then 100 miles on it that I'm not ready to be riding.....I thought I was but I'm not....I've been on the GS500E for two years and have put lots of miles on it....well...25,000 and have taken the MSF and still...I thought I was ready. NOPE! I got it because it looks cool and I though I would look cool on it. I should have went to a 750 or maybe a 600. Think about it before you do it. Everyone here is just trying to help you and keep you alive. :cheers:

 Hmmm.. yea, I was on a 200 mile long straight road !?!?! Never turned once....

I'm just talking about taking a turn that required leaning more than 15 degrees over at a decent speed :P

I test rode the gsxr 750 and am in love with it. I dont want a 600 and i dont want a 1000. The 750 is all i need, and its what i will get in the winter. If you want the 1000 and think you are ready for it, why not buy it, its not our decision. If i wanted the 1000 i couldnt care less what ppl thought.  :cheers:

I dont ride agressively. I Dont feel the need to.  :mrgreen: I just go out and cruise, look at the sites... High speed cornering is best left for a controlled track environment  :thumb: There is too much gravel lurking in the turns, and old ladys driving on the inside of my lane here in PA  :mrgreen: So my point was.. If you can ride one bike you can ride most any bike, just dont ride it like your on the track.  :thumb:

Top Speeds from Cycle world Aug 2005

CBR600RR = 146 mph
ZX-6r = 149 mph
gsxr600 = 145 mph
daytona 650 = 146 mph
yzf-r6 = 148 mph
rsv1000r = 157 mph
999s = 153 mph
gsxr750 = 152 mph
cbr1000rr = 157 mph
zx-10r = 164 mph
agusta f4 1000s = 159 mph
gsxr1000 = 161 mph
r1 = 162 mph

So you're telling me that for a bit more torque  and about 10 more mph that you probably won't use that often unless you track ride or you don't mind losing your license that a litre bike is worth the higher risk and insurance if you think so and you feel confident in your riding skills go for it, if you don't then take some track school courses and work your way up to it. You get one shot at life and you get to choose how to live it. Good luck.

when it comes to street riding I believe that there is a point when you can get from 0 to the posted speed limit TOO fast....

mastrind

my concern is never how quickly I can go from 0-60....but rather from 60-0....
PETE: It's four in the funking morning!

SHAUN: It's Saturday!

PETE: No, it's not. It's funking Sunday. And I've got to go to funking work in four funking hours 'cos every other funker in my funking department is funking ill! Now can you see why I'm SO FUNKING ANGRY?

ED: Funk, yeah!

The current Motorcyclist has a comparo between the ZX-6R and the GSX-R1000.  Their final take?  If you're a superbly talented balls-out rider who plans on spending a lot of time at the track, go for the GSX-R.  If not, the ZX-6R is the better choice.

After a year on the gsxr he will have outgrown it anyway and will be asking the gsxr forum if he is ready for a trubo kit and nitrous.  If he is still around.  He is exactly like some of the people i saw on the dyno at carlise.  Big bikes young guys and no idea how to ride them.

If that was true then you would not have included the second paragraph in your first post.

I have been thinking I want a bigger bike too.  I don't want it to drag knees with and hang corners.  I want something that has more power to ride 2 up, could be taken to the drag strip to have a little fun, and to take on some road trips.

If I stick with Suzuki then the 750 Katana will be my next step up.  A little more comfortible than a gixxer and a better for 2 up riding for me.

Go ride a 1000 then make your choice.  I have recently rode a older 1100 Honda.  Plenty of power but not that comfy.  Look and think before you buy.

If you accidently blip the throttle on a GS 500, worst case: unload the front fork, but not lift the tire.

Accidently blip the throttle on a GSX-R: high side baby!

Sounds good!   :thumb:

Yeah, but that is a pretty good insurance rate.  What is your insurance company?
