Put it together with this, and you have a $300 GS.

Ogg: Not spear, caveman.

And even if both engines are shot, that should be enough parts to make one good Frankenengine.

Shooot!!  If that were in my area, I would be all over that as a project.

I sent him email. Athens is a short ride for me. I'll take it off his hands if he's giving it away.

Hmmmm...spare parts!  :)

I was thinking about it but had made plans for Sat already.
Common sense in not very common.

I wondered if you were interested. Heck, just getting it across the line is the first order of business. It may be a total basket case or even had a taker by now. At least I could fit it in the Chev van with seats shoved around.

My first trip to Athens, GA was today. Look what I brought home!

It was under a shed roof, down a muddy, mucky hill in a residential section of town. College towns are interesting in their own right. This one was no different.
Here's what the engine came out of
I forgot to ask what happend to his GS to cause the following shot
It has 40K miles on it. The owner is a GSTwinner.
Here
is the post where he talks about the rebuild. I thought vehicular damage was involved.
Spare parts, or maybe the beginning of another GS rebuild???

Looks like you had a positive weekend. Besides the cover, anything else damaged?

The abandoned mill was all he had left and the only thing he mentioned. The people who were residing in the house he previously occupied took issue with an engine under the shed. There was also an abandoned moped of undetermined lineage, missing an engine, under the same shed.

I don't believe anyone ever thought of putting the GS mill in the moped. Now that's a mod!

Cheryl and I had a blast picking this up. Never been to Athens. Got lost in downtown and stopped at the Historic District visitors center for directions. Had to stop on the way out of town to flush mosquitoes out of the car and rinse the mud off our shoes!   (Note: on the next salvage run, take a can of Raid Flying Insect spray - it would have been very handy.)

Dane said it would turn over implying that it was not locked up.   I haven't tried it yet. We also didn't discuss why he changed the engine after the wreck. I am applying "Gift Horse" philosophy here.

It really isn't too bad looking. Typical street use grime. Nothing rattling around that I can tell. It even had the plugs still in it! Starter is there. Neg battery cable is there. Neutral switch is there. Stator is there. He just did a total mill transplant.

I used to live in Athens and miss it terribly.  Great little town - the only problem I had with it was the lack of employment opportunities.  The university is the biggest employer in town, and since they basically have a captive pool of prospective employees, the payscales are relatively poor.

Did you run into Mary Beth at the Historic center downtown?

Unless she had some surgery, no. A nice fellow, soft spoken, thinning hair, late 30's early 40's gave me directions. The VC is under renovation and should be very nice once complete.

US 29 from Anderson to Athens would be a nice GS ride, except for the normal business zones. Not twisty, but nice in cruise sort of way.
