The transmission is made by Yamaha.

I had that happen to me when I was going from first to seccond I think it happened because I didnt press the shifter up hard enough.

Ive missed second on my CBR a few times. Its kinda annoying, ive gotten into the habit of kickin it up into second from first.

similar thing happened to me on 460 in Blacksburg.  Cought somewhere between 3rd and 4th, like neutral.  Like you i pulled the clutch in and poped the shifter up and hit 4th.

I've shifted between 5th and 6th...

If you don't let the shift lever ALL the way back down after the last shift or don't shift all the way up, you can end up in a sort of half-way-ray shift...

Can't be good for the trans...

I think these are called false neutrals.  I've missed the 1st-2nd shift before from not flicking the shift lever hard enough, but I've never hit a false neutral between the other gears.

I completely understand someone hitting nutral between 1st and 2nd but between 4th and 5th that not normal.  I've been looking through the factory service manual and haven't found an answer.

Since you have to leave the previous gear before you can move into the next one, you can always get hung up between gears.  A solid, well-executed shift makes it much less likely.

it happens from time to time.
I usually miss gears when I don't have my boots on. My shoes are too soft and I don't slam it with enough authority.

I've managed to hit false neutrals on pretty much every bike I've ever owned.  I never really thought of it as a terrible thing. It just happens and usually when you're trying to look cool in front of someone.

I haven't hit any 'tween gears above second, but I'm the queen of shifting from first to neutral rather than second. I just think of it as double-clutching on a bike.

Oh and just to let you know I switched to synthetic and the gear box shifts much much smoother and not a sign of slippage.
