well.....I've finally got my tools and garage stuff mostly unpacked at my new house....and I want to re-install my frame sliders on my SV.....what is the best way to go about putting some holes in my lowers??.... :dunno:

....is there some special kind of drill bit/attachment I should use?? :dunno:

...should I use my dremell??...and if so, which attachment??.... :dunno:

..I'd like it to fit the sliders kinda snug, because I'm no good at repainting, and I don't want to have a large white ring-around-the-slider going on....

...so any recommendations would be welcome and greatly appreciated  ....thanx....

PETE: No, it's not. It's funking Sunday. And I've got to go to funking work in four funking hours 'cos every other funker in my funking department is funking ill! Now can you see why I'm SO FUNKING ANGRY?

ED: Funk, yeah!

hole saw should work good. i would put masking tape over the area you are going to cut to protect the finish...

Done this on a 5 or 6 bikes. Kind of scary the first time but just take your time. Cutting on contours can be challenging but they can be done.

First mark the hole location. I put a piece of clay (or similar material on the inside of the fairing, then press the fairing against the slider mounting bolt to mark the location. Drill a pilot hole through the clay from the inside. Use a hole saw on the outside. Best to use a variable speed and reversable drill. Spin the hole saw backwards slowly to cut through the paint. This will leave a clean cut. Then switch back to standard drilling direction and slowly drill through the fairing. It is good to use a block of wood to support the fairing as you drill.
Common sense in not very common.

here's a good write-up on the "play-doh" method.

yep...mostly smiles......cheers all around  (clink)......no mishaps.....only problem was drilling into left side was tricky because there was no fairing for center/aligning bit, kinda had to wing it, but all looks good....

again thanx to all....
