Yesterday just as I was about to go for a ride, I noticed my license plate was missing.  Someone stole the license plate off the back of my bike!  :x

Why?

I filed a police report before work today...
This is Ridiculuos!

Now I have to get up extra early tomorrow and wait in friggin line at the Registration office!    :x

I park in an open carport..  I've been too lax about putting the cover on my bike, but now its goin' on every night!

well....

I had my car cover stolen off of my car while it was stored in a garage. :dunno:

They didn'y bother to take any tools or anything else just my car cover.

If they want something bad enough they will take it.

a buddy had his 600rr stolen from the same kind of curcumstance...be careful davipoo.

97gs500e-they want your plate so they can run from the police without fear of getting caught from the license. this lets them ride with a plate on the bike, without one they'd be an open target to getting pulled over.

i actually believe it IS the people at the registration office... but then again i don't believe our bikes actually run off gasoline.  Oil companies in co-hoots with manufacturers to have residual income.

Just a theory...
LIFE should NOT be a journey to the GRAVE with the intention of arriving SAFELY in an attractive and well PRESERVED body, but rather to SKID in sideways, CIGAR in one hand, favorite beverage in the other, body thoroughly USED UP, totally WORN OUT, and screaming WOW - WHAT A RIDE!

In fact, they don't run off of gasoline..
They run off of the fumes that gasoline produces..

If you want to see what I mean, put some gas in a glass jar and ignite it..
The flame will stay on top and not go down into the liquid gasoline..

I had that happen once to my car.  Came out the the plate wa gone.  I reported it stolen and less than a week later a cop buddy of mine told me my plate was used in a shooting on the other side of town.  Good thing I reported it stolen.. cause that would've been BAD!

Word. I haven't even gotten around to replacing my disc lock yet (still using one that can be opened by a Bic pen). Why should I? There are a few Triumphs, a bunch of Japanese supersports, a BMW and a KTM parked out on the street within five blocks of me. Who in their right mind would bother taking my little GS?

Remember when nobody wanted to live in Brooklyn, because of all the crime?

Sux man =(  I got a bike cover for my gs after my lock incident - not sure how well it will work, but hopefully it will discourage people a bit more.

Im thinkin I wanna start locking up my bike now.  Is using a disc lock a good theft deterrent?

Whats a good disc lock to use on the GS, and does the GS require a specific kind?

My plate was stolen recently as well.  Went to the bank yesterday and noticed it gone.  Total BS.  Also I have been told people steal them for the stickers.  I did get the cop on to my bike and convince him that a bike is the best way around the Bay Area....  He liked the GS  :)  Spent about 3 hours dealing with the stolen plate yesterday.  My bike is my commuter, needed it legal...

I could be wrong but from what I have seen over the years people use the stock butterfly type nuts that the dealer used to put their tag on the bike at the dealer.  The ones that you can remove my hand and need no tools.

I use nylon lock nuts and allen headed bolts so that it is a pain in the ass to remove or steal.  I used pop rivets on my bikes 10 years ago since you would need a drill to remove them and they would never rattle loose.

As far as the gasoline in a jar only burning on top, that's because you need fuel and oxygen.  Fuel will only burn on top because that is where oxygen is present.  You need gasoline mixed with air...hence the need for a carb.
