Something BIG hit me this morning on my commute to work....sheared my left mirror off...almost took my left hand with it  :? ....anyone have one for sale (the mirror, not the hand  :P )? It doesn't seem as though the local Suzuki dealers have one!

Thanks!

Actually, my ego (and a lot of other things about me) are a LOT smaller than you give them credit for...but thanks for the thought!  :P  :P  :P

P.S. And if my ego had hit me, it would have taken my whole ARM!  :P  :P  :P
P.P.S. I don't get the impression you think a terribly highly of women, in general. Or is it that you simply don't think very highly of the human race?

What the heck hit you? Bird?

pandy

I never saw what it was....   :dunno: It just hit my mirror hard...and then both things hit my hand... thought I'd broken my hand at first, but it's just swollen. I figured it was either a big bird or something that came from the other side of the freeway (was in the carpool lane on 101N between San Jose and San Fran)....it's certainly taught me to expect the unexpected...

It looks like I may be able to get third-party, after-market mirrors locally...hopefully!

Maybe I dont think highly of ... just you ...    ... hey just covering all the options ... It was just a joke ... no deep meaning. No real reason, this is also a joke. Would have done it to anyone ... Smiley's and Kiss were put there just for you though ... just to make sure you got the idea ...  :o  ...

Sorry to hear that happened... it would have given me a heart attack!

What year is your bike?  I don't use my stock mirrors, so i have extra's from an '89 gs.   If you can't get some locally and if they'll work for you, i'll send my left one to you.

Just let me know.  :)
LIFE should NOT be a journey to the GRAVE with the intention of arriving SAFELY in an attractive and well PRESERVED body, but rather to SKID in sideways, CIGAR in one hand, favorite beverage in the other, body thoroughly USED UP, totally WORN OUT, and screaming WOW - WHAT A RIDE!

Pandy, aside from the rogue wildlife, how bad is the commute nowadays on motorcycle from SF to SJ?    I moved out of the bay area in 2000 when traffic was at its craziest... I just wonder how it is now, during rush hours

The Buddha

Yea ... she was going fast enough to lose a mirror and part of her hand to a bird ... so unless it was a Hayabusa (the bird not bike) I'd say it was fast ...
Cool.

I was certainly AWAKE after this!  :o

Mine's a 1992, so it's probably a fit. I'm going to a shop in the next hour to see if their universal one will work for me.

I'll PM you if I find I still need to purchase your left mirror!  :thumb:

Thanks!!!!!!!!

Aside from rude wakeup calls....

I commute from SJ to Foster City in the AM and the reverse in the PM. Traffic still sucks rotten eggs, but it's much better on the bike where I can use the carpool lanes and split lanes when even the 101S carpool lane bogs down in the afternoon.

If I'm caging it, then I take 101N in the AM, and 280S in the PM.

I've gotten awfully spoiled commuting on the Baby G, though. I get very bummed when I have to drive my car.  :(

I tend to not waste any time when I'm commuting.  :P

I was going about 85 indicated, so probably about 76MPH, give or take? I think the bird (or whatever it was) was going about 140MPH coming from the opposite direction.  :?

I think this was a fairly tame (only a small heart attack) reminder to expect the unexpected...  :thumb: I think I'll NOT wear my rings on the bike from now on (will add accessories when I'm brushing my hair AFTER getting to work ;) )... I just barely (and with great pain) got my ring off when I got to the office about 10 minutes or so after I was hit. Whatever it was actually bent the ring on my left hand (ring finger next to pinky).  :?

OK Birds are light ... really light, if a pigeon sat on your helmeted head, you'd not even notice, very very light ... for obvious reasons ... And there be a hail of feathers ... You may have had a object from the road (like that car muffler I dodged once on 580) or someone from the opposite side lost something off the top of their car ... like a part of a roof rack ... Yea These damn SUV's need things on the roof ... their owners are always outdoors camping and trekking and doing the Oh so cool things ... yea right ... morons ... lose the crap that can kill people on the road ... especially when you never use it. Retards ... I know of someone that got one of them nissan things with the silly ass super tall rack's ... in 3 years I have seen it, nothing has ever been in it.

scratch

Glad you're allright, hope your hand heals quick.

I used to commute to RWC via 280N & S; 36 miles.

If you want to find one local, call Santa Clara Cycle Accessories (730-0600) or Zoom's (248-5780, be patient with these guys) to see if either of 'em has one.

Boyfriend to the rescue (thanks, Sweetie!!!)!! He gets a sushi lunch this weekend! And thanks to Doug's Motocycle Service in San Mateo. New after-market pair of mirrors for 20 bucks (beats 1 Suzuki mirror for $65!!!!!)

Mirror's all fixed; hand's feeling much better...but you can bet I'll be looking for that mirror during my commute tomorrow!! I wanna know what hit me! :x

Will keep those shops in mind for the future, scratch! Thanks for the suggestions!  :)

Srinath: maybe we have BIG birds here!  :P It seems that we can't dodge the SUV's and their parts no matter HOW hard we try!  :o

I used to live there ... wonderful as CA is for birds My Truck was called scrubjay - west coast variant of blue jay - blue and silver no red, and that Yellow billed magpie unique to Central CA valley (sac to fresno) ... east coast birds are better. More variety, more variations and just plain better. And to the point ... no unique big birds just local to the 101 ... been there seen that I left 2002 august ... heck august 5th I believe.
Cool.

  Yeah, I think whatever it was that hit me was prolly metallic.... the only give I felt was my mirror and my body. There wasn't even any seam where the mirror was sheared off.  :?

I think a cocktail is in order when I get home tonight!!
