these are things to take pics of and post!
splattered bug guts make great pics for conversation starters...

Most recently I encountered pieces of re-tread hitting my helmet, chest, and legs at about 70mph. My first thought was "boy I'm glad I have all this gear on." Can't imagine not wearing a full face helmet and having some one's hub cap or a bigger piece of re-tread hit me (or a cicada for that matter!).  :o

Yeah, you're lucky.  Basically they live in the ground eating roots until they get old enough, or something, to crawl up out of the ground and molt on the side of your house, or garage, or deck or tree or pretty much anything they can hold on to, then they fly off and leave their old shell behind.  Then they sit in trees and make a really loud buzzing noise for about a month or so to attract a mate, then they reproduce and die.  What a life.  They make a pretty good splat noise when you stomp on them though.

the big bugs i've had trouble with are dragonfly.... here in Winnipeg, MB, we have such a huge mosquito problem that they actually bring in, and breed dragonflies simply because they eat lots and lots of mosquitoes... they also spray some type of chemical that kills them....
but anyways, i hit a few dragonflies so far, and the worst one left a bruise on my knee... and a nice splatter on my jeans!

i kinda feel bad every time i kill a dragonfly on the bike because that's one less to eat the mosquitoes... but then when i get off the bike and take a look at the hundreds of mosquitoes that are splattered all over my helmet, jacket, and bike.... well let's just say that i dont feel so bad anymore!
washing it all off sure sucks though!

cheers!

My worst experience was a large bug hitting my adam's apple at 70mph

Heck, I'll take dragonflies (which I have done and it hurts) or the cicadas (which I haven't even seen before) over the hornet that managed to fly up my jeans on Sunday.  I only got stung 3 times before I managed to kill it.  Let me tell you, it hurts like h3LL and it isn't easy to kill them through jeans.  It must have been entertaining/scary to watch me wail on my leg for the person that happened to be following me.  Once it was sufficiently terminated, I then pulled over and shook it out.  I wasn't going to try and shake it out while he was still alive because it could have flown farther up my pants.  That my friends, is not the type of swelling that the ladies are interested in.

last weekend I had a couple of weird ones.

a bug of some sort hit my sun glasses (have a full face, with visor open).  didn't think anything of it, until about 10 seconds later, I feel a buzzing by my left temple and out it flew.  still don't know what it was.

next day, I'm riding around with my jacket slightly unzipped, and I feel this bug hit my right shoulder blade.  didn't think anything of it, then about 2 seconds later, I'm like ouch that really hurt as I'm getting stung.  Hoping it wasn't a bee and not a hornet or wasp (who can sting several times instead of just the once), I stay focused on riding until I can pull over to check it out.  was definitley a bee - the stinger and good size swell were left behind.

Frigging yellowjacket flew down my collar yesterday about a block from my house - practiced my emergency stopping en route to getting my jacket off.  Only got one sting, luckily.
