Hey,

I'm a fairly new owner to a 2004 and when I'm downshifting at a roll or a stop I my GS sometimes shifts into neutral on the way.  Is that bad?  It doesn't seem good to me.

Also...........my front end starts to shimmy around 100 mph, I know that's kinda fast, but I'm not sure why it does this.  This is not just a shimmy, it's more of a scared I'm going to crash shake.  Could it be because of the softness of the front springs or b/c of wheel balance?  Would the progessive's that I'm going to put on help?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

You're asking if it's bad for neutral to be between second and first?

Front end shimmy at speed is a search.

What I was asking is it alright if I can shift down to neutral at a roll or stop?  I know that neutral is between first and second, but I thought you could only get to it by going up from first, not down from second.

What do you mean by front end shimmy is a search?

I appreciate any help with this.

big torque

Neutral is between 1st and 2nd.  It doesn't care which one you're coming from.

I can't help you with the front end shimmy, but you should be able to find plenty of info on this board.  Use the forum search function.

The first thing is to make sure you've got 33 lbs of pressure in the front tire.

After that, a search should turn up stuff about checking steering head bearings, etc.

I just did a search on shimmy and read somone say something about if you take your hands of the steering that it should go straight.  Mine leans a little to one side?  Could that be an rear wheel alignment problem?

I just thought I was lopsided

Mine does that too.   :dunno:   Does your's seem wobbly when coming to a stop?

not coming to a stop.  IT's good until I get going around 90.  I think I'm going to try moving the rear chain tension nut on the opposit side of the lean to even it out.

That's okay.

1st check tire pressure, since I see that you are trying to sell your bike, you probably haven't had much time to ride or maintain it.

2nd - Where are you looking when this starts to happen?

And, how tight are you holding onto the handlebars? Are you tightening up even more? Where do your eyes drift to? Are you looking down?

I am usually looking straight forward, when this happens........kinda leaned forward on the tank, it does it less when I distribute my weight forward.

I do tighten up my grip on the handlebars, I feel like holding onto them harder I can eliminate some of the shake.

Tire pressure I will definately check out, if that isn't my problem, could it be that the rear wheel is improperly aligned?

Also I was wondering what the tire rating is for stock tires.  Like I know in cars certain tires aren't supposed to go over a certain speed (like Z rated tires can go like 130 mph)

No offense intended, but you REALLY need to learn how to use the Search feature (look near the top of the page for the link), and it probably wouldn't hurt you to read the FAQ a few times, either. We're all here to help one another (well, MOST of us are :x), but you have to be willing to use the Search feature on this site in order to find the information you're looking for; I did a quick search and found some real good information about headshake, so you should give that a try.

Good luck; let us know what you learn, and if you need something explained, someone will be glad to help you.

Whatever6060

Yeah I'm learning to use the search feature.  Looked up some stuff..........checked tire pressure and adjusted the one side of my chain tightener, don't know what it is called.  Had it up to 115 this morning, not much wobble............well a little bit but wind induced I believe.  It's alot better than it was.

Thanks for your guys help!
