Leak ??? How bad ... I rode for 2 weeks with no gasket on my virago ... leaked like a sieve when stopped, but only used like a quart in 100 miles. Leaking while running was minimal ... The fitting has no pressure, so I'll ignore it post haste ... the gasket is best way to do it, because even with silicone you'd have to take it off ... so I'll order gasket and ride it in the mean time, then one day after the gasket shows up, pop that thing off and fix it. BTW you may be able to use a beer carton to cut yourself a  gasket, but that outer side print has to be sanded off ... Worked great on my vulcan, but took forever to cut and finesse it. I was unemployed so I did that, I also wound my own stator then, both of whihc I wont do now ...
Cool.

no just find a wall or something to lean the bike the other way then take it off dry the old gasket out and use some liquid gasket.

Actually what davipu said can work.

The oil does not need to be drained if the bike is leaned to the right side. There really is not much oil there when the bike is not running. I would put in a new gasket but if in a crunch, a non-hardening liquid gasket will work.
Common sense in not very common.

just out of curiosity...what causes a gasket to suddenly leak?

and what brand/kind of liquid gasket should i use?...my dealer doesn't have gasket in stock...

Permatex makes several "Gasket Maker" products which will work.
