Just a note to say thanks to everyone that posted reasons why my nephew should not get a 600cc sportbike for his first bike.  He actually listened and got a 05 GS500F in black.  All it took was in insurance quote and my flage and wileyco. :)   Oh btw he's 22 and got quoted $1800 a year for the GS hate to see what they would have quoted for a 600cc bike.

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

$1800 a year!?!?!?! I took the MSF, have had my lisence for less than 2 weeks, have no other driving experience at all and I'm paying $355 annually, even though his is much newer than mine it seems like a lot, what company is he with? But he made a great choice anyways!!!

From what I have read here that quote is pretty acurate for a new bike with plastic and someone his age.

Umm i'm 23 almost 24 and I don't have the greatest record and i pay 477 a year.  I am insured thru progressive and I know there a cheaper out there then that too, My auto insurer is USAA and i went thru them, they use progressive for motos.

Last year before I turned 25 I was quote, through Farm Bureau, $1000 for a 2001 gs complete coverage.  I opted to go with liability only for around 300.  This year I picked up the full coverage for a little over 300.

I think the insurance co was Safe Co they quoted the $1800 a year.  He went with someother company and is paying $900 a year.  And thats with the MSF discount.

I forgot to add I'm only 16 lol, and thats $355 CAD, but it is only minimum coverage so if my seat gets slashed I'm pretty much on my own.

Insurance prices vary greatly from state to state and also by zipcode as well as the driver's age and other variables.

Not to mention there are many options for limits and coverage. Comparing one price to another is pretty tough unless you're comparing apples to apples...

I'm not sure about Canada but GA requires limits of 25/50/25 on cars while IN requires 25/50/10 limits. It's always best to purchase as much insurance as you can afford as well as shop around when it comes to renewal time.
