Hello all

Is there anyway to lower the seat height even more on the 99 gs500?  Maybe an inch more or so.

I think there might be a how-to on this site for shaving the seat? I might be thinking of BARF....

I second that.  It would be better to get thicker boots, shave the seat or both before you modify the suspention or its architecture.

I found a seat on ebay for 20 bucks and found a site http://www.itrocks.com/motorcycles/gel_seat.htm on shaving the seat (Thanks Tom Monroe).  Gonna give that project a try and let you know how it went.   I'll try to post some pics of it too during the project.

Not neccessarily...If you are willing to sacrifice comfort, then shave the seat. If you are willing to sacrifice ground clearance, then lower your suspension. Shaving the seat is the quickest, least expensive way to go, but if you want to enjoy riding for longer periods of time, and you don't use all of your ground clearance, than lowering the suspension would be a better option. It's easy to do with the proper knowledge, but you should lower both ends at the same time, so as not to affect handling, although a lowered bike will handle better due to a lower center of gravity (and a shorter wheelbase (for even tighter turns)).

Shaving the seat doesn't necessarily equate to loss of comfort.  If you shave it so it fits your butt better, your weight will be better distributed than over a higher and flatter seat, and even weight distribution is the most important factor for seat comfort.  Also, gel pads offer more cush per volume than foam, so you can lose height while gaining comfort.

Dave gave me the idea of mouse pads to fill the squares on my bare GSX-R seat.  I like it.   :mrgreen:

I'll agree with that.

Anyone know where I can get a mouse pad or gel pad large enough to cover the entire GS500 seat?  I thought CompUSA might have one but no luck.
