what grade gas to run with advancer

Ok so i am new to the gs but have a tl1000r and have to run 92-93 octane because of the compression ratio and timing.  what grade gas do i have to run if i use the ignition advancer?  what grades does everyone run with stock ignition timing?

great site so far with lots of info.

The manual says 87.  So run 87.  Kerry even runs 85 (we don't get that in WA).  Read the recent thread for a discussion of why some put Chanel #5 in their tank.  I'm too tired to rehash all that at this hour.

With gas at $3.19 here I can barely afford to put anything but regular in it.

the advancer plate make the sparks fire earlier, but the engine is still the same compression as before, so it shouldn;t require a higher octane rating.

i know octane is the resistance to predetonation (pinging) the higher the number the higher the resistance.  i just want to make sure that the timing advancer does not require higher octane.  thanks for the info guys.

You will only need to change octane if you increase compression.  Advancing the ignition does not increase compression, therefore use the 85/87 octane gas as usual.

i know this is kinda off topic but why does the ignition advancer increase HP and response?  wouldn't you want to ignite the fuel later in the compression stroke to get more energy and burn out of the fuel?  just curious if anyone knows the physics behind the increase.

At the risk of over simplification, at higher rpms the piston outruns the burning of the gas/air mix.  By advancing the spark the burn gets a head start to match up better with the piston.

Good question .. why does that work?  and why doesn't suzuki just make the signal generator like that stock (dumb question I know).

I noticed the most difference in my bike at lower rpms.  I was always close to stalling the bike when starting out until I put in that advancer.  

Also, I use 89 octane as that's the lowest I think we get here in Ontario.
